Wrong. I’d pronounce them both wrong.

Well, written that way it would be. Correctly written (Anaïs) the diacritic on the ï shows that the two vowels are pronounced separately, like in Zoë.

I've never heard Anaïs, I love it!!

If the child will be growing up in the UK I'd scratch Anaïs from the list. The Anaïs I know gets a wide variety of pronunciations on a daily basis.

The perfume was never pronounced annay. Look up the adverts on YouTube. It's definitely closer to ann aye iss.

The mispronunciation of Anaïs is an interesting one because although it is an error it is nevertheless based on some understanding of basic French pronunciation, and it all comes down to the omitting of the diaeresis.

There is no such French name as Anais but if there were it would indeed be pronounced ann-ay. Omitting the diacritic completely changes the pronunciation. In the cases of Zoë and Chloë the correct pronunciation has endured even in the absence of the diaeresis, but I think the damage was done to Anaïs by the Cacharel scent in the 80s.

Depends on whether you want English or French pronunciation. But:
Gaia - I've always heard Guy-uh in [English] movies and TV shows.
Anaïs - I would say a-na-ees if speaking French. French doesn't use syllable stess. Never heard it in English.

Same! I'd have said Gay-a and Ann-ays 🤦‍♀️ Never met anyone called either though.

Well, I used to wear Annay-annay in the eighties, but discovered that the correct pronunciation was Ann-eye-ees when they did a TV advert for it!

Gaia is guy-a.
