The only name we've whittled down that we both love for our little one due very soon. Just looking for some thoughts?

I don't love KitKats. The chunky ones are wrong.
I'm not keen on the name Kit - it's ok short for Christopher but a bit trendy.

When I worked in a sweet shop, lots of people would ask for Kit-e-kat.

@windowof i can’t understand bear as a nickname for Arthur, what am I missing?

bear as a NN for Edward seems obvious to me

bussteward · 08/07/2023 12:23

Lovely, I know two. Would’ve used it ourselves but there was already one in the family.

You are weird then. Kitkats are amazing but kitkat chunkies are the boyos! 😋

KirstenBlest · 08/07/2023 12:59

No, they're just wrong. I'd still eat one though.

KirstenBlest · 08/07/2023 13:03

@IsItNormalFTM , the meaning of Arthur is 'bear'

So you still eat them 🤣 they are so right.

KirstenBlest · 08/07/2023 13:26

I think I last had one about 16 years ago, but yes, I'd eat one.

KirstenBlest · 08/07/2023 13:27

When they were made by Rowntree, were two fingers and wrapped in foil they were perfect.

KirstenBlest · 08/07/2023 13:32

Maybe you could look at other chocolate bar-inspired names. Terry, for example.
Hmm, no, I don't think I'd want to name my child Flake.
Maybe go the Kit-e-kat route - I like Cesar (ok, it's dog food) and Felix and Oscar are popular.

Whatisityoucantface · 08/07/2023 19:08

My 2 year old goes to nursery with a Kit. Even she calls him KitKat. I don’t think she’s ever eaten one or gets the reference. It’s just what all the staff call him and she’s picked up on it!

Roselilly36 · 08/07/2023 19:13

I have only ever known Kit as a nn for Christopher tbh.

lottiegarbanzo · 08/07/2023 21:16

As a diminutive of Christopher yes. Likewise Kitty for Katherine. Lovely.

But as a stand-alone name? That's like naming a child Bob.

pambeeslyhalpert2 · 08/07/2023 21:22

I didn't used to like it but I really do now

FoodFann · 08/07/2023 21:25

Lovely nn

MiniEggsAllYear · 08/07/2023 21:27

Absolutely love it. If DC2 had been a boy, she'd have been Kit. A lot of people suggested having it short for Christopher but we just liked Kit as a standalone name.

YesYesAllGood · 08/07/2023 21:30

Sorry, don't like it! 😂 Too close to PE kit for me!

AliceInWonderl4nd · 04/08/2023 00:46

Do it! We have a 7 year old Kit (just Kit, no 'Christopher NN Kit') and it suits him. He's cool, funny and clever, and we have had no issues with 'Kit Kat', 'P.E. Kit', etc. He's also the only Kit we have ever met. Both our DS's have one syllable names, and they have both grown into their names. If you love it, just go for it!

user1492757084 · 04/08/2023 06:29

Kit is fine and I love it's Christopher connection.

To me it is a similar style to Tex, Rex, Tig, Jed, Ted, Red, Dirk, Yo, Bud, Lon, Pip, Dom, Fox, Max, Ken, Greg, Figgy, Track, Ern, Todd, Art, Ced, Dax, Knox, Jett, Saul, Xan, Christy, Tim, Wes, Dwayne, Mick, Phil, Geoff, Hal, Neil, Ozzie, Paddy, Vic, Wyatt, Zane

Daphnis156 · 04/08/2023 23:37

It's very RAF as a shortened name.

PuffyShirt · 04/08/2023 23:46

It’s a nice name, but I’d be put off by the fact every other small boy seems to be named Kit at present.

Wavessea · 05/08/2023 22:36

I really really don’t understand the love for this name????
Its awful and twee in my opinion and wishy washy

calmcoco · 05/08/2023 22:39

As a nickname for Christopher it is nice.
