Maliyah or Malayah

Melanie
Laura
Charlotte
Alice

SophiaLarsen · 27/06/2023 12:09

I like Mariela best. I wish I'd gone with that for DD.
I had a dd tmrw I would go for:

Marie-Claire
Maria
Xanthe
Or Anastasia

Kaamos · 27/06/2023 12:11

Mariela is beautiful

Workawayxx · 27/06/2023 12:15

Mariella or Penelope are my favourites from your options. Also love Marianne. Valentina is lovely but I agree with you on "Val".

JeminaSunshine · 27/06/2023 12:16

Mariela reminds me too much of a cruise ship.

Marcia is cute

I would be bold and go for Gloria. Nelly the elephant puts me off that and the Valentina I know gets called Tina, which is obviously a no.

CurlewKate · 27/06/2023 12:21

How about Helen shortened to Nelly or Nell?

Hadtocomment · 27/06/2023 16:45

I love Nell and also Nelly (so shoot me) and also Nora. I'm not sure about Marcia which has different pronounciations in UK and US I think (isn't it Mars-ee-ah in Uk and Marsha in US?). Mariella I'm a bit on the fence about. I quite like Mariel or Marielle. But I don't know if it would be associated with the less pleasing Muriel. Other M names - Monika? Malia? Maria?

I really like Delilah though I know it's probably getting a bit trendy.

Penelope is a bit formal-sounding and I don't love Penny although it's totally fine and nice. I can see the romance of a long glorious name like Valentina but then it would definitely be shorted and Val is almost the opposite in it's very extreme bluntness.

On the Valentina line, what about Veronica? I also really like the name Cassandra which is long and magnificent with an ancient history but really nice shortenings in Cassie and Cass.

My lovely friend Margaux spells it like this - she’s half French and half Italian. I love this spelling!

babysharkdoodoodedoodedoo · 28/06/2023 00:40

I also love Nell and Nelly and don’t see what anyone thinks Nelly is ugly. I think it is so cute! Nell for a full name is classier than Nelly as a full name - Nelly can be nickname. Or Eleanor, Leonor, Leonora, Eleanora, Helen, Ellen, Helena, Penelope can all have nicknames Nell.

Mariela is okay - how about Mariana or Marina? Oriana? Lucia?

mathanxiety · 28/06/2023 01:40

Mariela and Penelope are lovely.

Suggestions:
Mirabel
Elspeth
Elowen
Serena
Hazel
Eloise
Helena
Florence
Mariel

My tomorrow name would be Nancy.

it looks like you favour ‘romantic’ names so how about

Marceline
Marina
Lilia
Evangeline

anecdotally, I have 4 children in school - they each have a Margo/Margot in their class, 2 in DS1

But then there’s potential for penny Nelly lol I’m soo fussy I can pick flaws in everything! I might not even need a girls name I’m 3 weeks off and don’t know the gender then with Valentina I love butttt I think she would just end up being called Val which I’m not crazy about tbh. Hmmmmm

Not necessarily, people don't always shorten names and if you make it clear that her name is Valentina and not Val then friends/family etc will get used to only calling her Valentina. Val will only stick if you let it. Plus it's not a common name with a common abbreviation such as, for example, Becky for Rebecca

I have a Nancy! As well as an Elsie and my DD is Albert. We quite clearly like traditional names 🤣

MrsO3 · 28/06/2023 13:54

I personally prefer Marcia over Mariela.

We have 2 DD'S and 1 DS. Our girls are Elsie (middle name Rae) & Nancy (middle name Rose.) Our DS is Albert (middle name James) but had he been a girl then he would have been Ivy. So Ivy Grace would be my name if I had another girl tomorrow.
