Edward or Hugo?

Trying to decide between the two! I’m looking for a classic English name that’s easy-ish to spell. (Im currently living outside the UK so popularity is not an issue.) I love the nickname options for Edward, but Hugo feels a bit more special somehow (and I love the meaning of heart and mind). Both have family significance.

Note: I can’t use Hugh or Edmund as they are already in use in the family (mentioning this, because they always get suggested as alternatives!).

Thank you!

Not Hugo.

I love Hugo. I don’t see it as being “posh” and surely, if it ever was it can’t be any more with so many boys being named this
I find Edward rather boringly old fashioned.

@Longdarkcloud —thanks for the positive vote! I was starting to wonder how Hugo was ever listed in the top 50 names given the majority of these comments!

I really don’t see it as an upper-class signifier, but it’s a family name so perhaps I’m blinkered to that? Regardless, it can’t be both popular and elite, surely?!

Seems contraindicative, doesn’t it? If you call him Hugo you can get a copy of the dvd of the film Hugo which I found delightful

Edward

Edward, for sure. Hugo is a bit 'try hard'. Hugh is fine, but you say you can't use it. Edward is so versatile I'd go for that.

Hugo. Edward is really boring and now particularly nice sounding to me.

Edward.
Hugo is a dogs name round here.

Edward by a mile.
