I think we have landed on Sydney as a first name for our baby girl but are very much struggling for a middle name. I'd ideally like something long, feminine and possibly floral. Ending in a consonant would be a bonus for flow with last name. Thanks in advance for your help!

It was our choice too, but we’re having a boy.

we had selected Sydney Cecilia

the middle name was after a relative but it seems to fit your idea of something feminine.

I'd not bother with a middle name unless for sentimental reasons naming after someone. I don't have one, and personally I think it's great

No no no. Sydney Sweeny was massive in Euphoria which kids will know of. Don't do it.

The name reminded me more of that female character in the Scream series.

I'm going to suggest a middle name that I don't think has been suggested...Francesca. Joking! Unless you're Italian please don't use that.

@lankyhanky Why not? I don't get that about Francesca, is it something to do with characters in Scream or Euphoria (never seen either)?

Francesca is a lovely name and is used quite a lot in the UK, although obviously Italian. But anyway, the OP wanted something that ends in a consonant.

Exactly. You'd never name a baby anything if you based it on every show, song or person in existence.

WhoppingBigBackside · 15/06/2023 12:53

@JamSandle , people would create new names.

I know people who were given the names of celebrities. Didn't seem to bother them.

mathanxiety · 15/06/2023 15:09

Agree, @JamSandle

There will be at least eleven years of media coming and going before any of the baby's peers might run across a show that's on now.

Unless a series becomes a blockbuster along the lines of Friends, there's a good chance 99% of what's on this year will sink without trace as the years go by. Plus, I can think of several really popular series where character names have become popular or remained popular despite the series.

There are several names from 50 Shades of Grey, for instance, that are very popular, but you can't assume people will have read certain books or watched any particular show or movie, or would associate any particular name with those occurrences even if they did read/watch any of it.
