Since opinions on Mordecai were a resounding 'no', what are your opinions on Malachi? Would you know how to pronounce it? Do you know any?

I know 2 x Malachi (ma la kai) in their teens.
I went to school with a Malachy (ma la kee), who'd be in his 50s now.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 06/06/2023 10:51

Oh, and I really like both. Prefer the "Kai" pronounciation.

Mal a kai (like eye)

I know one who pronounces it like this. They are Irish decent. I'm not sure if it's an Irish name but I like it anyway. Their other child is Zachary.

Apologies saying a no to the other name on the other thread. Whatever accent of emphasis it is said in it’s a nice sounding name. Different enough but easy to decipher how to say.

DuchessOfSausage · 06/06/2023 12:02

It's not good, @17caterpillars1mouse .
I'd say it as Malluck Eye

It strikes me as one of those OT names that's a bit too much

Thinking of the pronunciation Malachi is the old testament prophet - Mal a kai. Malachy is the Irish Saint - mal a key.

Grassisbluer · 06/06/2023 22:49

Actor Cillian Murphy's son is Malachy.

MaraScottie · 06/06/2023 22:58

Malachy - good solid man's name, absolutely love it. Would have used it for my son only it sounds terrible with my surname.

TheWebWeWeave · 06/06/2023 23:03

I initially read it as Malarkey.
Not keen, Milo is a better name.

WhisperingAutistic · 06/06/2023 23:07

I like both names. Malachi a bit more though.

NextTimeItsOver · 06/06/2023 23:12

I think it's a fantastic name. Unusual but not weird.

YellowSea · 06/06/2023 23:15

Malla-Key
One of the dead children in Angela's ashes. Not a good name.

Underminer · 06/06/2023 23:19

I also know a 10 year old with this name, he lives in the Black Country, and even though he is a Mall ah kai, he gets called Malluk quoiiiiiiii, so they had to shorten it to Mal.

continentallentil · 07/06/2023 00:01

I only know Irish ones..

I don’t like it much but it’s usable

Bellaphant · 07/06/2023 07:01

My husband vetoed Malachi but did let me have Micah!
