After 2 DSs (Max and Freddie), we are struggling to pick a name for our baby girl due in a few weeks. Which is your most/ least favourite?

Liv
Zoë
Cleo
Robyn
Ella
Frances or Francesca
Ines

How about Olivia nn Via (like in 'Wonder')? Really sweet.

Notajollyholly · 04/06/2023 06:55

I love Ines too

GoalShooter · 04/06/2023 06:56

In order:
Zoe
Liv
Francesca (prefer this to Frances)
Robyn
Ella
Ines
Cleo

shoopshoopdedoo · 04/06/2023 08:18

Ines, Frances or Zoe

ladygindiva · 04/06/2023 09:59

Most: Robyn or Zoe
Least ; Liv
The others are all ok

JamSandle · 04/06/2023 10:11

I love Zoe.

IAAL · 04/06/2023 10:13

Of those, I like Frances best (or Francesca).

Pemba · 04/06/2023 10:25

Zoe is beautiful and my favourite (sorry can't do the accents). Second favourite Francesca.

Least favourite is Ines. It doesn't really work in English imo, most people are unfamiliar with it so there will probably be spelling and pronunciation issues. I think it seems a bit too austere and harsh anyway, a bit unfeminine . There are lovely 'I' names like Isabel, Imogen and Ida though.

rainydaysandtuesday · 04/06/2023 10:26

Frances fave
Francesca lovely
Ella lovely but popular

rainydaysandtuesday · 04/06/2023 10:27

Zoe is ok but drop the umlauts

Liv is not a name. It's a sound

Won't you end up lengthening to livvy?

Cleo is nicr

Puppylover83 · 04/06/2023 10:28

I say Francesca, Frankie would fit in lovely with your other names. Max, Freddie and Frankie.

Dragonsnap · 04/06/2023 10:32

I think the answers you get will vary by region - for example I have loads of Liv’s and Ella’s near me so wouldn’t pick those.
personally I would pick Zoe.

Pemba · 04/06/2023 10:35

Of course Liv is a name! Tell that to actresses Liv Ullman and Liv Tyler. Just because it's short.. By that logic Ann, Kim, May, Rose, Lee, Jade, Jane, Clare, Ruth, Grace are all not names. Possibly people are confused because Liv is often used as a short form for Olivia.

17caterpillars1mouse · 04/06/2023 11:33

Liv - i really like Liv and Livvy as nn but would want either Olive or Olivia on the birth certificate personally

Zoë - I think Zoe is great but would just go with Zoe for simplicity

Cleo - not a fan

Robyn - nice enough but prefer your other choices

Ella - lovely name

Frances or Francesca - not a fan of Frances but I like Francesca. I would personally avoid another F name though

Ines - lovely name

ourflagmeansdeath · 04/06/2023 12:53

Liv - On its own?? No definitely not, I don't like it at all
Zoë - Really not keen
Cleo - Makes me think H20 and just not my taste
Robyn - Lovely name
Ella - I just think it's kind of plain
Frances or Francesca - I don't like Frances but love Francesca considering my daughter is called that lol
Ines - Really pretty

ourflagmeansdeath · 04/06/2023 12:54

Actually I wouldn't go for Francesca with Freddie because I think the Fr starting is a bit similar and makes Max seem a bit out of place. I think Robyn is lovely with Max and Freddie though along with Ines.

MyFaceIsAnAONB · 04/06/2023 12:57

I know an about 4 baby Zoës if that bothers you - one is mine, when she was born all the midwives etc were like WOW we haven’t had a Zoë for years! And then the next week there was another one born in the distant family 😂

Cleo was on our list but I couldn’t persuade DH! LOVE Cleo. Know a few too.

I like them all except Ines. I’d probably go Cleo or Liv (Liv Tyler is just Liv isn’t she?)

MyFaceIsAnAONB · 04/06/2023 12:59

(By the way I’m not saying it’s bad to know multiples of one name. Just giving some real life experience! My kids LOVE meeting others with the same name as them)

user1492757084 · 06/06/2023 09:47

Ella, Cleo and Zoe I would use
I also like Francesca.

NBLarsen · 06/06/2023 10:47

Liv is my favourite from your list. It is a name in its own right, it literally means life, it's such a beautiful name.

I also love Ines but it doesn't seem to click with your Max and Freddie, not sure why I think that but there isn't a flow for me.

Robyn is pretty and sweet, another great choice.

Zoë is a lovely name but she'll go through life having others write it as Zoe, so unless you are from a European country, you'd be better off just using Zoe.

Cleo - no strong feelings either way for this one.

Ella - it's nice but unmemorable to me, a bit invisible.

Frances or Francesca - don't like either of these at all, makes me think of a frumpy old lady.

Springbuds38 · 06/06/2023 10:55

Ella is a lovely name, definitely my favourite from your list. It does depend a bit on how it goes with their surname though and what their initials will be. Also, congrats and good luck with the new baby x

MerryChristmasToYou · 06/06/2023 11:35

Liv looks unfinished and it's probably pronounced differently in Norwegian. There are thousands of Olivias registered every year and many probably get called Liv or Livvy

If you have a name like Ann, Jill or Kim, people try to lengthen them, even if you explain to them that you aren't Annabel, Jillian/Gillian or Kimberley.
Grace and Clare aren't particularly short but they will get Gracie and Clarey
