Harris and?

Babynamehelp123 · 25/04/2023 19:29

We already have an almost 4 year old DS called Harris. We’re Scottish.. I got lots of negative comments about his name on here before we chose it but it’s one of the top names in Scotland now and is the name of a Scottish island (in case anyone doesn’t know).

I’m 37 weeks with baby number 2. We don’t know what we’re having yet and have a few possible boy options (mainly because they were on our list last time) but really nothing for a girl! I’d like if it tied in with the Scottish theme, doesn’t have to, but not the obvious other island names ideally! Thanks for any suggestions 👏🏼

Quite a location-specific connection then 😁

Marsali or Flora. For a boy, Munro or Sorley.

Senga is a joke name in Scotland, Agnes backwards.

It's rhyming slang

'Aris is short for Aristotle rhymes with bottle - bottle and glass rhymes with arse.

It's pretty common here to use aris for arse.

Exactly this. But as you’re in Scotland, I’m guessing Cockney rhyming slang won’t matter.

There was a Senga on Pointless this evening! She must've been in her 60s. She came from Orkney, IIRC.

onoimonmy · 25/04/2023 21:39

You did not get lots of negative comments. Some posters (not all English btw) let you know it's rhyming slang for 'arse' in case that bothered you. 🙄

I wonder if anyone has actually had a Senga in the last 60 years? I'd be gobsmacked to meet one.

There was a Senga on Pointless this evening.

I love the name Morag.

LimitMyScreenTime · 26/04/2023 16:05

I have a daughter called Brodie. There's a Brodie castle up north somewhere.

Cameron is nice with Harris. I know lots of boys called Harris, never linked it to arse, weirdly enough.
