I prefer Esmé. But why butcher Ivy?

Sadiegirl87 · 08/04/2023 21:09

Esme is a beautiful name
Ivy/Ivie is probably a bit more common at the moment

Ivy may be...

Tellmethespoiler · 08/04/2023 21:15

Why would you? Both are ridiculous and make you look stupid or ignorant.

BurntOrange · 08/04/2023 21:18

I knew a Nigerian girl who was Ivie - it was pronounced Ee-vee-A - so it's a legit name, but possibly not with your pronunciation

JustSophie · 08/04/2023 21:21

Are you Dutch by any chance? I only ask because one of my Dutch friends has an Ivie (pronounced Ee-Vee) and the Dutch would naturally also put an é on Esmé. If you are not Dutch and/or not actually raising your child in the Netherlands, I'd probably stick with the traditional English spelling personally, save her lots of hassle.

You already called her Esmé, you don’t like how people pronounce it so want to replace it with a frankly ridiculous spelling of a nice name.

Leave your poor daughter alone.

Cherryblossomtreesforever · 09/04/2023 06:40

I really like Ivy, but seeing it spelt Ivie makes my eyes hurt!

LoudSnoringDog · 09/04/2023 06:45

Esme. I have an Esme- I had intended it to be pronounced Es-mee but seems no one was capable of that so she quickly became an Es-may

PuppyMonkey · 09/04/2023 08:50

Well my Esme is a meee and everyone round here is perfectly capable of pronouncing it that much nicer way.
