Different circles I suppose but I know several people born in the 1940s who have only recently become grandparents. And I don't think I know anyone in their 50s who's a grandparent.

When people say grandparent names they mean their own grandparents generation, not the baby's grandparents.

That's how name trend cycles go. Your own generation and your parents generation just feel weird, but your grandparents generation (~80 years older than the baby) are starting to feel quaint and charming.
