I am not yet pregnant but DH and I are trying we would name a girl Felicity Carys Tesni but are undecided between Howard or Douglas for a boy as a first name. Middle names would be Ian James and both middle names are honouring. Douglas was DH’s DF name DF died when DH was 7 months old of cancer. Howard is a name DH loves. I like both and we can’t decide between them. What do you think?

I like both! Very ahead if the fashion curve. They will both come back I predict.

Not keen on either. Definitely old man named not due a revival just yet.

And I say this as someone whose dad was a Douglas... or 'Big Doogie' as he was locally known.😐

Douglas is great, a classic and older name that is very underused. Doughie is so cute on a little boy.

Howard is a bit harder to pull off, he could be called Howie like Howie Mandel but Douglas is much nicer.

Lovely names, I slightly prefer Douglas.

KirstenBlest · 02/04/2023 19:16

@Tradeup , is Doughie short for Pilsbury Doughboy?

Howard. Howie would be a cute nickname. Douglas is awful b

Howard is awful. Reminds me of a dirty man visiting strip joints

aibutohavethisusername · 02/04/2023 19:25

Douglas

StampOnTheGround · 02/04/2023 19:40

Howard is awful, Douglas isn't great but Dougie is okay

Spanielsarepainless · 02/04/2023 19:43

I like both. Douglas Ian sounds marginally better than Howard Ian but both are classic and good adult names.

SirChenjins · 02/04/2023 19:44

I prefer Douglas but I’m not keen on either. I’m in Scotland and it’s not an unusual name here at all, but it’s not popular for babies nowadays. It’s often shortened to Doug or Dougie (pronounced Doogie which I really hate!)

Daisybuttercup12345 · 02/04/2023 19:45

I'd have James Douglas.
Howard and Douglas are both awful tbh.

redyellowpinkbluegreen · 03/04/2023 10:52

I love Douglas. But it would be shortened to Dougie and there's Hey Duggee which I'd never heard of until I had a child. Still a super cute name and I like the story. Don't like Howard

RuthW · 03/04/2023 12:16

Howard but Douglas is nearly as nice

emmathedilemma · 03/04/2023 16:39

Douglas, Doug, Dougie is so much better than Howard.
