Middle name for James

We love James as it's a classic, traditional, can be shortened with nicknames etc.

We'd like a bit of an interesting middle name - but nothing too out there, as we feel as though two traditional names e.g. James Henry might be a bit too meh?

Has anyone got any nice traditional (but slightly unusual) names they can suggest? Our last name is 3 syllables so ideally nothing too long!

I know many will probably smirk but Dean.

I know James Dean 😁

But I think it sounds lovely.

Yes we love a name with meaning - James is a family name, and DS1's first and middle names are both family names too. We don't have any obvious boys names that we can use which we have a connection to and which we like/work. The only options we've come up with so far are Adam (family connection) and Aubrey (quite unusual and also happens to be the name of a family friend). Thanks for your responses so far!

Marcus sprung to mind. Not sure why.

If you like fairly traditional, how about William, Alexander, Joseph, Arthur?

I think you need two syllables. My first thought was William (or is that technically 3 syllables?) but I think James Henry sounds good, and I also quite like James Michael, even though I don't usually like Michael! Weird...

I quite like James Henry and James Adam, but not so much James Aubrey.

Agree with a PP that James Alexander would be great (could be biased as my son is Alexander James 😁)

James August
James Luca

Twizbe · 20/03/2023 16:58

Mine is James Thomas - both family names.

James has a very long tradition in my family and usually the middle name was the mother's maiden name.

We've had things like James Jones Surname and James Kershaw Surname.

We didn't do it for our James as our surname is double barrelled and felt 3 surnames was too much. That said, it would have sounded pretty cool.
