What do you think of this name? It’s always been my guilty pleasure name although I’m not sure why it makes me feel guilty. From Nameberry:

“The name Tansy is girl's name of Greek origin meaning "immortality".

Tansy is a flower name rarer than Rose, livelier than Lily and a lot less teasable than Pansy.

Tansy is a perennial herbaceous plant of the aster family that has clusters of small bright yellow blossoms. It was cultivated by the ancients for medicinal purposes, and has found a variety of other uses over the ages, associated with health and immortality.

There have been a couple of eponymous novels titled Tansy, and it was the name of a character on Hart of Dixie.”

Cute name for a hamster.

There's also a (fictitious) Tansy who's the heroine/narrator of one of Emily Barr's early-00s chicklit/travel novels, Backpack. This Tansy is from a rich borderline-aristo family and has a successful London career in PR or law or something before she trades it all in to backpack solo around SEA. The author doesn't specify, but one suspects she has cousins called Dido and Araminta. This Tansy has issues, but she's definitely not wet, soft, sweet, juvenile, or dim. However, she does get called Tamsin a lot by people she's just met.

makes me think pansy

Sweet on a 3 year old. I can't imagine it on a 39 year old though. Some names are great on children but not on adults (and obviously the opposite is true).

I feel the same about all the Poppy/Milly type names though, so it could just be me 🤷‍♀️

If you like it, that's all that really matters at the end of the day.

Tansy is a male character on The Last Man on Earth on Prime. I thought it was a made up name to be honest but I can see it working for a female.

No, he’s Tandy! 😂 Love that show, so funny!

Tansy used to be used to cause abortions so tbh I'd avoid it myself.

Sorry! I got totally confused Grin

I watched Hart of Dixie and it fit really well. Having never heard the name before it was super believable as the name of a middle-American redneck. Take from that what you will!

Quite pretty. Remember it from the old Topsy and Tim books years ago.

Fakeairpodsfakeoodie · 21/03/2023 22:54

I know two women called Tansy both Anastasia on birth cert. 100s of miles apart and 10 years difference so it's not due to location etc.

I like it phonetically but it is a very bitter tasting herb associated with miscarriage, so personally I wouldn't use it

Same. Most other flower names are “nice“ plants.
