The same initials? Opinions

Hi, I posted here a few days back about naming by 2 week old baby Lucy, there was mostly positive feedback and I've pretty much settled on the name. My name is Louise and someone pointed out that we'd have the same initials. This isn't something id even thought about and a few of my friends share initials with their children so didn't feel it was a big deal. What are your thoughts on having the same initials? Also do you think Louise and Lucy are too similar? Ive always liked the name so wasn't phased but now I'm questioning everything before we get her name registered!

I have the same initials as my child not a problem as children but now they get their own mail I'm forever opening it by mistake or vice versa....or we both leave it for the other

Pre-marriage, I shared initials with my late DM. Never though about until I read this post!
Post-marriage, I have the same initials as DH and late DFIL. Whatever Grin

Just make sure their middle initial is different and use it.

So if you are Ms L M Smith, they can be Ms L K Smith.

I had the same initials as my brother and now I have the same initials as my husband. It's rarely been an issue.

Having similar first names isn’t going to be much of an issue as you’ll be known as mum to your children.

I have the same initials as my dad - I’m sure my parents opened my post a few times and excused it by saying they mistook it for my dad’s. So from child pov it can be annoying if your parents are nosey but not really an issue.

It's ok, but I had my parents opening my mail as a teenager.
That it had Miss K L Blest not Mr K C Blest or Mrs K S Blest made no difference.
I didn't like that. Also DF would bin it if was something he thought wasn't important and DM would tell everyone what I'd received.

Thanks as most people have said we're moving towards paperless information so hoping it won't be a big issue, she will be Miss and I'll be Mrs and we're having different initials for middle names. Feeling much better about the initials and our names being similar now

My DH and son have same initials. Has caused upset in the past when the wrong person opened post. Other than that I can't say it is a problem. A different middle initial would have helped.

I have the same initials as one of my children, doesn't bother me in the slightest and I don't think it matters one but.

dizzydizzydizzy · 17/03/2023 20:36

My mum, DD1, my aunt and I all have the same initials. Never been a problem.

TheFeistyFeminist · 18/03/2023 12:43

I actively sought to avoid it since I knew a family years ago where all four children had the same initial and they were forever opening each other's letters. That said, it's a lovely name and a name is for life, not just for childhood.
