Thoughts on Max McCann

My DH and I have found out we are having a little boy, we cannot agree on a name. I wanted something more traditional my DH is siding towards unusual as our surname is McCann. He loves the name Maximillian McCann, but realistically the name will be shortened to Max, which I am not 100% keen on, my question, does Max McCann sound like a ridiculous name? do the first and surname sound too similar? I also like Jenson/Jensen and interested to know your thoughts?

Max McCann is totally fine

I absolutely love the suggestion of Finn McCann.

Maximilian/Max McCann immediately makes me think of Madeleine McCann. It's the MM initials with McCann too as well, far too similar imo.

No kids will make that link though

I really despise Jenson. But perhaps that’s irrational. I think Max McCann is great, good flow and sounds like a super hero or spy!

That's a really strong word "despise". Would have expected maybe "not keen on" but you've gone for full revulsion at the idea of the name Jensen.

I agree @iwontforgetyoumyfriendwhathappened , dislike would be a less forceful emotion.
I can't say I'm keen on the name, and it's a bit more 'named after a racing driver' than Lewis, Sebastian or Max, but I wouldn't find it repugnant.

I love Max McCann, really dislike Jenson.

Max McCann is very cool - I love the alliteration ,especially for popular names as it makes them stand out more/be more memorable imo. I do very slightly prefer simple Max over Maximilian with a surname like McCann though - simply as Maximilian is a bit of a mouthful anyway (albeit a very lovely one!), but when combined with McCann there's more M's and N's to get your mouth around.

Still prefer Maximilian to Jenson/Jensen though- mainly as it's pretty trendy (became popular due to the rise of celebs- racing driver Jenson Button, actor Jensen Ackles), whereas Max/Maximilian feels a bit more classic/timeless.

Sounds too much like Mexican for me personally.

Jenson is terrible so Max purely on that basis.

But teachers and many adults will. Also Madeleine McCann is popular enough that by the time he's in his teens, his peers will make the connection too.

McCann is a really common surname. It’s quite sad to suggest that someone of that name should avoid ‘M’ names because of Madeleine. If you knew a Max / Michael / Maisie / Martha McCann in real life the association would soon be replaced by your knowledge of them. That poor child is not a reason not to use a perfectly lovely name like Max McCann.

You are so right. It is unfair to presume that the child would be somehow at any disadvantage with an M name.

@ourflagmeansdeath what would it matter if teachers or others made a connection? What connection would there actually be?

I like Max better- Max McCann sounds like a Marvel character with an interesting backstory.

I think any first name beginning with an M with your surname doesn't resonate well because of madeleine mccann
