Help… DH derailing baby boy name choice

Calmondeck · 11/03/2023 13:13

DH & I expecting baby boy 2. We have totally different tastes. His choice won for DS1 (I was high on post birth euphoria).

DH’s picks:

  • Serge
  • Bruno

My pick:

  • Tom
  • Luca

We slightly agree on Alexander and Bastian.

Any advice welcome because I really don’t want to have a son named Serge

I love Luca x

Disneyforaweek · 11/03/2023 13:15

Luca is my favourite, Tom is good too

I don't like your husband's style of names at all!!

Chamomileteaplease · 11/03/2023 13:15

Surely if his choice won for the first child then it's your turn for the second?? That's how it worked in this house anyway 🙂. So long as the other one is ok with it!

CatOnTheChair · 11/03/2023 13:29

I've known 2 Serge's and they have both been the most fantastic guys, so that sways me a bit!
DH appears to like international names. I'd say Luca is in that style.
Don't do Bastian, please!
So, looks like the compromise is Alexander. Would versions of that appeal to both of you? Zander/Xander? Alessandro?

ourflagmeansdeath · 11/03/2023 13:30

Luca's absolutely beautiful. Tom isn't bad either, it's a bit plain. Serge and Bruno are genuinely terrible, don't let him have it.

I love Alexander so if you can both agree on it that's lovely. Bastian isn't for me, but I do like Sebastian.

Vote for Luca but if he really dislikes it (although it should be your turn if you got first child choice??) but if not then Alexander

Retractable · 11/03/2023 13:32

I’m not sure I’d describe your tastes as totally opposite. If I say a list saying Serge, Bruno, Luca it would look totally consistent.

Maybe you just need to explore more names until you find one you both love.

Personally, I like Bastian. I don’t see why it’s a ‘please don’t’.

RedToothBrush · 11/03/2023 13:41

Your husband having a different taste in names isn't derailing! Wow that's not exactly respecting him. That sounds like you want your choice and that's it.

AngelDelightUK · 11/03/2023 13:42

What’s your eldest called? Might help us a bit!

Soontobe60 · 11/03/2023 13:44

I’m on the side of names should be agreed - no one parent gets to choose over the other. So as you both like Alexander, go for that.

ihatebingbunny · 11/03/2023 13:46

Alessio?

Velvian · 11/03/2023 13:48

Alexander.

Reddahlias · 11/03/2023 18:13

Bastian? Shock You can't to that to a poor child - way too close to Bastard!!

I like Bruno

Lostmarblesfinder · 11/03/2023 18:15

Alexander

Aurorabored · 11/03/2023 18:15

Serge is LTB territory. If he picked your DS1’s name why can’t you pick for this DC?

jays · 11/03/2023 18:16

Luca or Tom and lovely, not keen on the others. Put your foot down! You have good taste in names X

chickbean · 11/03/2023 18:20

My friend has a great Bruno, but nowadays I would be worried that too many people would thing about Encanto

BevMarsh · 11/03/2023 18:21

I think we need to know the name of DC 1 really to help.

I do love Tom but may be a bit off if your child is named somewhat in your husband's style.

Suzi888 · 11/03/2023 18:22

Alexander or Sebastian.

I don’t like there others (sorry).

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 11/03/2023 18:23

Luke Alexander?

Scottishskifun · 11/03/2023 18:25

My DH named our first off the shortlist (said he didn't look like the other 2) so I named our second (both boys)
Just stick to your guns!

Calmondeck · 11/03/2023 19:15

@RedToothBrush don’t worry, I respect my DH a lot. DS1 got his top name choice, + his father’s name as middle name + his surname.

DS1 is Walter, nn Walt.

@chickbean thanks for the heads up on Encanto. That’s off putting!

I can imagine Walter and Thomas, Walt & Tom, I guess Alexander too, but we’re not so keen on Alex which he’ll inevitably be shortened too.

Really happy to receive suggestions. By way of background - we’re living in a European city, and their father has Italian heritage.

Well you have to agree, so it sounds like it’s Alexander or Sebastian, both of which are nice (just Bastian is weird).

LimeCheesecake · 11/03/2023 20:00

Sebastian - nn Bas or Seb - Walt and Seb work well.

Alexander known as Zander/Xand might work for both.

QuickNameChangeForMeToday · 11/03/2023 20:03

Alexander could be Zander instead of Alex.

Tom/Thomas is a great name

Sebastian is far nicer than Bastian… Walt and Seb.

Serge reminds me of that horrid little meerkat shudder.

user1492757084 · 13/03/2023 13:36

Walter is handsome.
Walter and Thomas Alexander.
Walter and Barry Alexander
Walter and Xavier Thomas
Walter and Alexander Thomas
