Phoebe or Octavia?

I think these are our final 2 girls names, we are both leaning to separate names (of course!). Phoebe usually gets a better reaction than Octavia, but would be good to hear your opinions x

Octavia is very posh.

Emmamoo89 · 09/03/2023 19:44

Octavia

Happyhappyeveryday · 09/03/2023 19:44

Phoebe. I actually hate the name Octavia. It sounds like someone in a comedy sketch.

iloveburmese3 · 09/03/2023 19:46

Love Octavia - very chic. Also sorry I had no idea it was a car and I love cars (good ones that is) ignore the comments OP both are fab but I would choose Octavia and Phoebe as middle name x

Mumskisail · 09/03/2023 19:46

Both are lovely ☺️

Happyhappyeveryday · 09/03/2023 19:48

Her nickname might be Skoda. Just saying…

FayCarew · 09/03/2023 19:48

Over a thousand each year since 1997, and most of those years over 1500 and several over 2000. @Orangepods . I'm not exaggerating, because technically 1.5 thousand is thousands.

Eatentoomanyroses · 09/03/2023 19:52

I know two Phoebe’s, one child and one adult. Brighter feeble or insipid. Both very clever, very bubbly, strong girls. Great name.

Luredbyapomegranate · 09/03/2023 19:53

Octavia

It’s quite a lot but it’s nice and you have Vivi, Tav etc as nns.

I think Phoebe is becoming overused and also PHeeeeebs

penelopequiche · 09/03/2023 19:54

Octavia means eighth born so unless you have seven others I'd probably go for Phoebe!

FayCarew · 09/03/2023 19:56

@Twizbe , October seems a bit unusual, but according to MN it's perfectly OK to use a month name and nobody will ask what month you have your birthday.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 09/03/2023 19:57

Octavia can also be used for a child born in August, or I suppose on the eighth of any month.

No… it’s really not www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/thousands

Iamclearlyamug · 09/03/2023 20:02

I like both, I read a book once where one of lead characters was called Octavia shortened to Tavy which I thought was quite nice

FayCarew · 09/03/2023 20:02

@Orangepods ,
Cambridge Dictionary says
numbers between 1,000 and 1,000,000:
His latest work is expected to sell in the thousands.

ourflagmeansdeath · 09/03/2023 20:05

I really do prefer Octavia with the nickname Via as it's quite lovely, but Phoebe's a fab name too! Think they're both gorgeous.

Orangepods · 09/03/2023 20:12

@FayCarew Maybe if someone wanted to exaggerate 🤷‍♀️ Anyway this isn’t the point of the thread. Op can see the numbers.

onlythesparrow · 09/03/2023 20:27

I know of two Octavia's- one nicknamed Ockie and the other Tavi. Both lovely little girls.

I personally prefer the name Phoebe.

xprincessxjanetx · 09/03/2023 20:46

Phoebe

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 09/03/2023 22:45

Despite both having classical roots, they are quite different names to me image- wise (albeit both perhaps with a slightly eccentric/arty vibe, somehow?)

Phoebe has fluffy, quirky, quite "youthful" image to me and I admit I'm not keen on the sound (too much "ee"). It's fine and won't rock any boats, however.

Octavia is the opposite- glamourous, elegant, more "serious". I really love it, but it's a braver choice. You might risk "posh" comments/assumptions, despite the popularity of similar Olivia and rising Ophelia. Worth the risk though imo, it's lovely.

Via - where? Timbuktu?

Blindsdown · 10/03/2023 08:27

Phoebe.

Octavia reminds me of Octopus.

As in the ending of Octavia, I just prefer it to Tavvy. I've always liked that nickname since seeing it as a nickname for Olivia in the film Wonder!

Anskl · 11/03/2023 00:24

Octavia is a beautiful name, but I'm not sure I'd use it in real life because it sounds so upper-crust.

Sorry, Phoebe is my least favourite girl's name. It makes me think of the word feeble.
