It says ‘family at One End Street’ to me, but that’s quite an old children’s book and I doubt you’ll spark that memory in many people.

(Their child was named after a misunderstanding about the painting called ‘Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose’, if I remember right.)

Me too. I really enjoyed that book. But I hope today’s children aren’t tempted to re-enact any of the stunts.

My first thought when I hear Lily Rose is the Ruggles although I couldn't remember the name of the book.

Same 🤣.

Both names are incredibly over used.

Lily-Rose Ruggles from The Family at One End Street series. Lovely stories.

Tacky... sorry

This

Reddahlias · 05/03/2023 15:27

We’re starting to see primary schools where 98% of pupils are called Jack or Lily, resulting in teachers being unable to address any of their pupils individually.

Wow Shock

Pileofjeans · 05/03/2023 15:44

Pretty sure Lily Allen's middle name is Rose

Bubblemachiene · 05/03/2023 16:06

Ok it's off my list guys.

The Ruggles! That was it. With twins (natch) called Jim and John, and four or five assorted other children who do random stuff like burning the ironing and getting lost on boats.

ColdHandsHotHead · 05/03/2023 17:43

This is the painting that Mrs Ruggles took the name from. www.tate.org.uk/art/artworks/sargent-carnation-lily-lily-rose-n01615

DipperandMabel · 05/03/2023 17:47

What other names are you thinking @Bubblemachiene ?

megletthesecond · 05/03/2023 17:49

No. Too popular and twee.
Chose one or the other.

DipperandMabel · 05/03/2023 17:51

Lily is fine on its own - if that’s the name he likes I would go with that (only if you like it too).

Could you pick the middle name, maybe a name you wouldn’t have the confidence to give as a first name? For example. I love the name Anastasia but wouldn’t give it as a first name but I would give it as a middle name

VikingLady · 05/03/2023 18:10

The Family at One End Street.

I wanted the name, but DH vetoed it because he didn't like the book.

Twizbe · 05/03/2023 18:13

Lilly rose May was a sweet little girlie, her eyes were so blue and her hair was so curly....

Makes me think of Princess and the peas.

It's a parody site 😊

morningsicknessagain · 05/03/2023 18:44

My daughter has two Lily's in her class so they are known by their name followed by the initial of their last name as with others popular duplicate names.

Luredbyapomegranate · 05/03/2023 20:58

Twee, wet and overdone.

Rose on its own is nice, but there are an awful lot of them

Bubblemachiene · 05/03/2023 21:45

@DipperandMabel
My list I have
Ruby
Hattie
Lucy

All lovely choices @Bubblemachiene - all 2 syllable names and similar-ish in style. Lily or Lucy would be my favourite depending on your surname though the other two might sound better.
