We really like all these names, I know the first 2 are a little more unusual so perhaps not to everyone's taste..

We like madeleine too but slight reservation being connected madeleine mcann who is back in the news a lot again recently!

Help 😊😊😊

Any thoughts/preferences?

Careful I've know two - both spelt the same but pronounced differently
Mad a line
Mad a lane
I know an Adaline
Ad a line

I like all of them. I wasn't sure how you were pronouncing Adaleine though (Adalane?). I like Adeline best, but I also like Adelyn and I also like Madeleine.

Addie is great and there are some advantages to having an A name or one close to the start of the alphabet these days.

Madeleine is lovely.
Adelyn and Adeline I just can't go past the work addle and those names addling my mind.
Do you like Adele (noble) or Adelphie ( sister) or Delphine (woman from Delphi or dolpin)

Two of DD’s (12) best friends are called Madeleine, both known as Maddie. McCann has never occurred to me.

It may occur to some people, but only in fleeting way. I wouldn’t let it put you off.

P.S. just giving their ages to indicate born since the disappearance.

Madeleine is beautiful, not keen on nn Maddie .

Threee · 03/03/2023 04:23

I don't think of Madeline McCann when I hear the name Madeline. It’s beautiful. Also Adeline is beautiful

Threee · 03/03/2023 04:24

Delphine is also stunning

MermaidMummy06 · 03/03/2023 04:35

I have an Adalyn. Pronounced Ada-Lyn.

She gets gets called Adeline or Madeline.

It's also more common than I thought. They're bloody everywhere.

I still love the name, although I wish I chosen Adeline (my DH didn't like it although he denies this now).

MermaidMummy06 · 03/03/2023 04:39

Sorry. To add, I prefer Adalyn as it's softer sounding but purely since everyone calls her Adeline I wish I'd used that.

She gets called Addy.

Madeleine is a beautiful name and you shouldn't let the McCann tragedy put you off using it. Madeleine is the French spelling, Madeline is the English, which can also be pronounced mad-eh-line, to rhyme with wine

Adeleine is that really a thing? Just looks like someone has accidentally lost the 'M'! Just use Adeline, or Adelaide, but in any case not as nice as Madeline for some reason.

Maddiehere · 05/03/2023 17:45

I'm a Madeline pronounced Mad-uh-leen. The uh bit isn't emphasised. Adaline is Ad-uh-leen to me (so same pronunciation as the end of Evangeline). Just to make you aware of that alternative pronunciation.

WhisperingAutistic · 05/03/2023 17:46

I prefer Madeleine. The McCann connection would not put me off.
