I dislike Isaac, so Julian, which I also quite like.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 01/03/2023 20:22

Julian sounds posh in a Hugo or Horatio-type way, so for that reason I'd avoid it. I quite like Isaac. I associate it with a lovely teacher from my primary school. I love biblical names generally - met a Malachi recently who is super cool so I'd choose that!

Reddahlias · 01/03/2023 20:53

@Pocketfullofdogtreats I'm genuinely intrigued as to why 'posh' is in any way bad?

Maybe posh is the wrong term. I meant pretentious. It's horses for courses. I wouldn't want my dch to have names that are either too posh or too chavvy, for want of better terms. I prefer names that allow dch to blend in wherever they find themselves.

I like both but Isaac seems pretty popular ATM so I'll choose Julian. Underused but very handsome

evemillbank · 01/03/2023 22:25

I'm not a fan of Isaac, but Julian is truly dreadful.

Daisychained8 · 01/03/2023 23:29

Isaac is lovely

Reddahlias · 01/03/2023 15:43

Julian 100%

Issac will get misspelled or teased with "I suck" Blush

No he won't get teased - there are lots of Isaacs around and I've never heard other kids tease them. People often do that on here -say children will get teased because their name sounds slightly like something else, but they don't.

DietrichandDiMaggio · 02/03/2023 00:17

I really don't like Julian. I just picture someone really drippy.

Adrelaxzz · 02/03/2023 00:20

Santasoorplooms · 01/03/2023 15:24

Isaac was the father of two sons who fought and deceived each other over favouritism and inheritance. I don’t know why anyone would choose it.

whereas Julian was the head of the Famous Five. It’s a no brainer, surely 🤷‍♀️

But in the famous five he was fucking annoying,😁

MumOf2workOptions · 02/03/2023 07:13

Neither
Both equally meh for me I'm afraid

Hobbesmanc · 02/03/2023 07:29

Julian is no one's favourite Five. He's such a prig! Plus I hate the shorter versions like Jules or Ju.

Isaac is great Old Testament name. Not over used.

Miabella89 · 02/03/2023 09:57

I like Julian more:-)

grangegrove · 02/03/2023 10:00

I have a five year old Julian and it suits him wonderfully. We’ve had nothing but complimentary comments about his name.

Berlinlover · 04/03/2023 08:04

Findyourneutralspace · 01/03/2023 15:46

Isaac. Julian reminds me of the drippy one in Famous Five.

They were all drips apart from Timmy.

Teeshirt · 04/03/2023 08:20

Julian is better. It’s a classic name. Isaac is dated now. It might have been OK 25 years ago when Old Testament boy names had a revival -this is the age of the Isaacs I know - but it’s now widespread and common, and we’ve moved on from that revival.

pinkstripeycat · 04/03/2023 08:29

Isaac is one of those names that has become in recent years. I doubt you’d find many Isaacs aged 40-60. Can shorted to Zak

To me Julian is a 70s name as I went to school with a lot of them

Luredbyapomegranate · 04/03/2023 08:43

How about Julius ?!

If not then I’d go for Issac

Julian is fine, but too early for a revival I think.

Snoopystick · 04/03/2023 08:47

Isaac pretty common. Julian not my favourite but better.

BooksAndHooks · 04/03/2023 08:49

Definitely Isaac. Julian is one of very few names that I really dislike. The ‘drippy’ association pp have mentioned very true.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 05/03/2023 01:04

Julian. Especially if you like the Famous Five.
Frightened Isaac springs to mind.

mathanxiety · 05/03/2023 02:16

Definitely Isaac. Julian is a little too plummy imo.

SoShallINever · 05/03/2023 21:45

Julian.
I know a very handsome and honourable Julian.
Isaac is boring.

peaceinourtime · 05/03/2023 23:51

Issac is nice and Ike is a nice nickname.

Issac is nice and Ike is a nice nickname.

Issac isn’t the name, though, or a name at all…
