Can't decide!!

Hey everyone! I'm currently 32 weeks, and we dont know the gender!!
So far we love a couple names but cannot decide for definite. There's no rush, I'm hoping I'll just know when they're born! I'd love some opinions though..

For a boy we love
Henry James
Michael James
Ronan James

For a girl I'm all over the place! We both like,
Emily Elizabeth
Mabel Elizabeth
Sophia (need middle name)
Melody Rose
Melody April

Kinda leaning towards Ronan, and Emily or Melody :/

Not in love with our middle names for Melody though, what do you's think?

Henry James or Emily Elizabeth

Do you think they flow? I just wasn't sure.. Elizabeth is a family name so I was hoping to use it somehow

Yes Melody Elizabeth Smith

ThisIsAnAlaia · 17/02/2023 20:40

Henry James? Are you a fan of the author?

Michael James is probably the best.

No to Sophia, every Tom, Dick and Harry have been naming their daughter that for at least the past 10 years.

Emily Elizabeth is probably best, although I always think middle names should be shorter than the first name.

ladygindiva · 17/02/2023 20:42

Why not Melody Elizabeth?

17caterpillars1mouse · 17/02/2023 20:48

Out of your boy names I really like Michael. It's an unusual name to come across these days but lovely. I like Henry too but know a few and tend to prefer it as a middle name. I'm not keen on Ronan, prefer the similar sounding Rowan

Out of your girls names I like Emily best, though like Elizabeth even more

thecatwiththesilveryfur · 17/02/2023 20:56

Melody Rachel sounds good to me.

MarshaBradyo · 17/02/2023 20:57

I like Melody but if it becomes Mel I’m not so keen

LulooLemon · 17/02/2023 21:08

Henry James - yes, but it's a well known person already (you might be ok with that)
Michael James - nice
Ronan James - my favourite from your list

Emily Elizabeth - love it
Mabel Elizabeth - nice
Sophia - great - how about Sophia Rose
Melody Rose - no to Melody, love Rose
Melody April - no to Melody, yes to April

itssquidstella · 17/02/2023 21:36

Henry and Mabel for me

My grandad was named Henry James, after king Henry VII and King James first king of England and Scotland. I loved the name.
I think short names suit longer middle names, and vice versa, long names suit shorter middle names ha.

I love Michael, but I worry they would get Micky, and I really don't like it. I need to pick shorter names really cause I don't like when people give nicknames ha

For me it would be Henry James and Emily Elizabeth. Lovely names.

I think this is what we're going to settle on being honest. It's the most liked and some of the very first names we picked!

What about Elodie as an alternative? Less chance of being shortened?

I like Melody Rose from your list

KirstenBlest · 20/02/2023 13:39

Elodie won't get shortened? Another Ellie, I'd expect.

RosesAndHellebores · 20/02/2023 13:41

What about

Meriel, Melanie, Verity
Like a pp I like Elodie

Why not Melody Elizabeth or Eliza

KirstenBlest · 20/02/2023 13:42

@Jodielou5972 , short names tend to get lengthened. You can't win.
I like Mikey short for Michael for a toddler. I know a Michael who is Michael to family, Mick to a few, but a completely different nickname to most people.

ourflagmeansdeath · 20/02/2023 14:58

I know an Emily Elizabeth so I think it does go well! And my favourite boy name out of those is Ronan but if you are using James then Henry James. My favourite girl name of yours is Mabel Elizabeth, that'd be my first choice but Emily Elizabeth is lovely too.

user1492757084 · 21/02/2023 07:32

Wow, I love April. How sweet, well known but different.

Sophia April
Rose Elizabeth
Ronan James

I really want James in the mix, most people tend to prefer Henry James.

I love Mabel too, but most of my friends and family have said she will get bullied :/ its making me doubt myself.

It was actually my goddaughters name idea! I loved it as soon as I heard it!

Mabel's nice. It's dd's third name chosen long before its resurrection. It was dh's gran's name.

I think James is a good classic. DH's and DS's middle name.

I suspect you will know when she arrives op. We had short lists and suggestions until they were born and our final choices suited the babies they were.
