Rory Oliver or Rory William?

Baby boy has been born but I'm struggling to choose a middle name. Surname is one syllable and starts with W.

Rory Oliver W
Rory William W

Which option do you think flows better and why?

Rory Oliver will give the initials ROW. Could that be a problem? 'Row' doesn't really have negative connotations but it may annoy him if his initials spell a word.

If he struggles with saying Rs then Rory William W could be War-we William W for awhile, but most children don't refer to themselves by their full name.

I know I'm overanalysing this but the postpartum hormones and sleep deprivation are making it hard to decide

Rory William is lovely, great choice.

I like Rory Oliver too, but would prefer initials that don't spell a word, even an innocuous one.

I forgot about the Dr Who character Rory Williams! Obviously the writers thought those names sounded good together...

Oliver was my second choice for a boy's name so I'd love to use Rory Oliver. I'm not planning to have any more children so this is my last chance to use the name. The initials ROW is turning me off.

Do you need to pick a middle name straight away? We definitely left it a few weeks with my daughter, as everything was a bit stressy and hormonal. Congratulations!

Both are nice. I like the ROW but then I love watching rowing.

Rory Oliver definitely. It flows better. There’s no issues with having initials spell out ROW. People on MN seem to overthink initial’s massively. My brothers initials are SAD, no one has ever made a comment or even acknowledged it and he’s in his 30s

Surprised so many think Rory William, I don’t think it flows well at all. Definitely Rory Oliver sounds better

Am not sure Rory William will flow with a W surname - might sound double barrelled?

Rory Oliver is harder to get your mouth around than Rory William, well my mouth, yours might be more flexible!

@jackstini I do like Rory Alexander but thought RAW would be worse than ROW haha.

@viques I do worry that Rory Oliver is a bit of a tongue twister, although my 4yo can say it fine. I know others would struggle with so many r sounds.

@Twoinapod I think I am overanalysing the ROW issue. I'm glad your brother hasn't had an issues with his initials.

@CastleTower there's no rush to pick his name, but he is already a few weeks old so I should get the paperwork sorted soon.

@user1492757084 I like watching rowing too! In fact, I first heard the name Rory when watching rowing at the Olympics a long time ago. A few of the men on the UK rowing team were called Rory! I thought it sounded so handsome.
