Girls names - classic but interesting

Hi everyone, I'm 40 weeks pregnant with first baby (eeek) and we are struggling to make concrete headway on names! It all feels so hypothetical still...

Names on our current shortlist, in no particular order:
Florence, Elsie, Alice, Penelope, Eleanor, Margot, Hazel, Roberta, Iris, Elizabeth, Astrid, Ivy

Please don't say anything negative about them, as they are all genuine contenders! But do you think any of them go together well as first/middle name combos?

AND are there similar names that we might not have thought of? I feel like nothing is massively jumping out at me and so I might not have found "the one"...

Thank you :)

Kalpatra · 02/02/2023 09:37

Lovely list.

There’s quite a Victorian era flavour to those names so you might want to google what other names were popular in that era as you may like them too.

Eg
Violet
Ida
Arabella
Clara
Effie
Emmeline
Dorothea

Timaya · 02/02/2023 09:40

I like Hazel Roberta (I would have considered this for my own DD honestly), and Astrid Penelope, and think they are lovely as sibling names too.

Luredbyapomegranate · 02/02/2023 11:38

I’d dump Florence, Elsie, Alice, Eleanor, Margot, Iris, and Ivy - just because they are all very popular (if you don’t mind that I’d go for Iris)

Penelope - are you OK with Penny? It will get shortened. You could try and impose Nell.

Elizabeth - popular but a great classic and so many short forms

Hazel - I don’t like it

Astrid - I really like it - it’s very of the moment, but I don’t think it’s actually overused

Roberta - I DO quite like it - I know one who is nn Bobbie

I’d go for Astrid

These might be some less common options:

Lois
Ines
Flora
Marianne
Zoe
Aster
Jocelyn
Frances
Carys
Ida

DuchessOfSausage · 02/02/2023 12:57
