Choice of three Hungarian boys names...

My partner is Hungarian, so we'd like to give our little boy a simple to pronounce Hungarian first name (with my English surname).

We're down to three choices and I'd love to hear other's thoughts. They are Levente, Lehel and Kende.

We're really struggling to choose a favourite. I'm haven't been able to find a name I really love (including English names) and he's a week old already!

Im not familiar with the pronunciations of the names

Ken-day or Ken-dah?
Leven-tay? Or Lev-ent?
Lay-hell?

MolkosTeenageAngst · 01/02/2023 20:46

How are they pronounced?

Pixbix · 01/02/2023 21:02

They're pronounced Kend-eh, Le-hell and Leven-tay 😊

Leventel is likely to be the easiest to use day to day.

My Hungarian friend is called Peter ... that works well in both?

ThomasinaLivesHere · 01/02/2023 21:05

I think Kende seems the best out of those and the easiest to pronounce although there will still likely be some issues.

ShillyShallySherbet · 01/02/2023 21:06

I like Levente

StillWantingADog · 01/02/2023 21:07

Levente. Shortened to Lev perhaps ?

Lmgify · 01/02/2023 21:07

Out of the three probably Kende with nickname Ken? I also quite like Gabor

Time40 · 01/02/2023 21:08

Kende, by a mile.

Yfront · 01/02/2023 21:11

I think Lehel is the least attractive of the three.

Levente is a nice sound but is it a car? Or is that a Levante?

Kende is quite a nice sound.

None of them are names I've heard before.

Matyas, Dominik, Daniel, Laszlo, Marcell, Adam... Any of these appeal? These would all be more obvious to pronounce in my view. I don't think your list is particularly easy to pronounce for most English speakers.

Congratulations on your baby boy 🙂

GoldenCagedBird · 01/02/2023 21:12

Levente

i love nn Lev

watcherintherye · 01/02/2023 21:12

Of the 3, Levente. But have you considered Lazlo?

Ikeameatballs · 01/02/2023 21:14

Levente is lovely.

amonsteronthehill · 01/02/2023 21:15

Keve is simple and easy to pronounce; name of a good Hungarian friend.
Otherwise, Kende would be my pick of the 3 choices.

Pinkishpurpleyblue · 01/02/2023 21:16

Kende.
Sounds lovely. Could be Kenny for a nickname too

AndNowIKnowWhatHappened · 01/02/2023 21:18

Levente is lovely. The others are ok too.

Congrats on your baby 👶🏼

Xiaoxiong · 01/02/2023 21:18

Wow if you hadn't told me those were Hungarian names I would have had trouble guessing where they originated!

I think Kende is best of those three but all of them are likely to be constantly pronounced wrongly - you might get people saying it as "Kend" to rhyme with send, or "Ken-day" like Kente cloth from Ghana.

If you asked me for a Hungarian boys name that worked and would be more recognisable to native English speakers I'd suggest Zoltan, Sandor, Lazlo, Bela or Biblical names, Mark, Josef, Tamas, Andras.

PizzaNinja · 01/02/2023 21:20

I like Levente, don’t mind Kende, I don’t like Lehel (but then, ‘Hell’ is also part of my name) 😖

Sexypyjamas · 01/02/2023 21:20

Kende.
Congratulations!

FloofyDuck · 01/02/2023 21:20

I vote levente. Lev or Levs is a great shortening. Congratulations!

whatwouldAnnaDelveydo · 01/02/2023 21:23

Lev is lovely, so I vote for Levente

Longdistance · 01/02/2023 21:24

My parents chose English names for us as this is where we live and they had no intentions of going back home.

My brother is Leslie (Laci, Lacika, László)

The names you list I’ve not heard of myself, but names change over the years.
Péter is a safe bet. Zoli (Zoltán), Attila, Ádám, Daniel.

Levente

Yes this, lovely

JellyKatty · 01/02/2023 21:29

Adam, Dominik, Tamas

saraclara · 01/02/2023 21:30

There are so many cool Hungarian names, but you don't seem to have chosen any of them!
None of those three are easy for someone new to them to pronounce. Kende is probably closest, but he's still get Kend, Kenduh and Kenday
