Silver

Just finished watching Ginny and Georgia and the name Silver has stuck with me. I'm not one for 'out there' names so I wonder if this is too out there for me. I also recall there being another character called Silver on a different tv show years ago but cannot for the life of me remember which one. Google is no help. Does anyone remember? And what are thoughts on Silver? My DD2 is Eden

It's a nickname to me, not a proper name.

I'm reminded of Silver in Cobra Kai / Karate Kid (Terry Silver).

I'm not a fan. I also don't like Sylvie or Sylvia.

I don't think its a horrible name but does feel a bit 'second place/runner up'.

I know a Silva who's Finnish, and that's a lovely name too.

I quite like it. You could also investigate what silver is in other languages too. Its Chaandini in Hindi for example

I know a Silver. He's six. It's a great name.

I actually really like it and given your other children is Eden I don't think it's too much of a miss match as if it were say Elizabeth.

Silver was a character in Hollyoaks. It was short for Slyvester. Dont rate it as a name.

If my mum had got her way thats what I would have been called, thankfully my dad got his way!

I knew someone who’s husband was Silver. It was a family tradition, I think they were something like Methodist which seemed to be tied up in it.

Anyway the first born son had been called Silver for several hundred years until they jointly decided no more of that.

I really love it. I’m currently listening to an audiobook and the female protagonist is called Silver. I was thinking how much better it would have suited DD2 than her real name. (She has grey/blue eyes and very thick, long, blonde hair like a mermaid.) It’s a bit late though. She’ll be 17 this year.

I used to teach someone with an unusual name, unlikely to be in the top 200 girls names but one people would have heard of. Her sister’s name was a much more usual name, of the Emma or Lucy type.

When I mentioned to a colleague that these two names didn’t seem to fit together I was told that the second sister’s first name was Silver but she didn’t like it and wanted to be called by something people would recognise as a name.

Silver is more a horse's name. And there's a song 'hi ho silver', not sure what it's about.

Silvie is nice though.

For some reason I find Silver a cold, thin name - maybe it’s the association with sliver and slither. I have it in the same category as Winter.
Also if the child isn’t pale and blonde it would seem a bit weird. I can’t imagine a red headed Silver or a ruddy cheeked hearty hockey playing Silver.

I love silver, the colour and the metal, but I don't think I like Silver as a name.

I'm showing my age with this but to me it's the name of the Lone Ranger's horse, that's the only tv programme I associate it with.

Also a little grey pony at the local riding school.

Won't they spend their entire life wondering why not GOLD?
