Oaken

Yes it is from frozen but I'm sure no one will care about that. I know someone with a girl called Oakah, so I'm considering Oaken for a boy.

I really like how it has a nature sound but also sounds quite solid. And can't be mispronounced easily.

Thoughts?

😂 wow ok you guys are brutal!

I don't like Oakley, it sounds American. Oak on its own is just too "tree". I actually like that it means "of an oak" - to me that says, natural, solid, good quality somehow haha.

I do think you're all very conservative. How is it different to Rowan etc?

And yes I am actually thinking of a teenager when I think of it - oaken isn't really a babyish name is it. I can't see him getting teased, my god people have all sorts of names now and Oaken wouldn't even register!

I don't know GOT but I do like Thorin as well although I think it will get mispronounced

It's the Hobbit, not Game of Thrones.

If you're going to use the name of a famous character (that is not at all hard to pronounce, and actually is a name), at least get the right book series.

Is Helen the new misogynist mot de jour?

At least Karens are off the hook.

And PP confirming my theory that 90% of the time only twats use the crying/laughing emoji.

😂🤣 for when someone's face actually looks like this: 😠🙄 or 😐

I imagine so, but I’m waiting for poster to enlighten me and either own their misogyny or come up with a completely innocent explanation for their odd use of Helen in this context.

MrsTerryPratchett · 22/01/2023 17:54

For clarity @bananamilkshakes I think you are using the emoji immodestly

And @SirChenjins I now have Waiting in Vain as an ear worm.

Twoinapod · 22/01/2023 17:56

No one’s heard of being a Helen Hunt? How bizarre, especially given the attitudes of many on here.

Berkshire Hunt, not Helen.

As in, "you seem like a right Berk using a woman's name as an insult".

It's ok for a sideboard made of oak but not for a child.

Well someone has their panties in a bunch

😂😂- just for you

MrsTerryPratchett · 22/01/2023 18:08

Knickers in a twist actually. 'Panties'? Hmm

SirChenjins · 22/01/2023 18:10

There’s a bit of a female genitalia theme to your posts @Twoinapod . You getting a bit lightheaded there?

AuntieStella · 22/01/2023 18:13

@MrsTerryPratchett

It's OK if you reference the behaviour not the person. So, "only a misogynist cunt would use a woman's name as an insult like that"

(Reported similar on a different thread - clearly aimed at the only person on the thread who had said XYZ. and it echoed her very words. Reported, and response said it could stand as it didn't specify a poster

ButterBastardBeans · 22/01/2023 18:14

Re watch The Wicker Man and choose another character to name him after.

MrsTerryPratchett · 22/01/2023 18:15

Good tip @AuntieStella

Seems I've been deleted already so that's me told. TBF I didn't actually call anyone a cunt. MNHQ were swift on the delete button. I shall mind my Ps&Qs!

Shield.

/On behalf of every LOTR fan ever.

That was my first thought!

Oakley is a brand that makes glasses, sunglasses and ski goggles and that kind of thing.

How about Okeydokey?

Apologies but it sounds like the name of a caravan at Hoseasons

You're joaken, right?

Notellinganyone · 22/01/2023 18:22

My faith it is an oaken staff. Line from a hymn.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 22/01/2023 18:24

It's laughably bad.

Funnily enough, Oaken is the name of a caravan park Grin

Your right

It certainly is the weekend of crazy baby name suggestions on here!!!!!

Longdarkcloud · 22/01/2023 20:37

I think it invites jokes such as “ he’s as thick as 2 short planks”.
Oakly or Oakley is better.
Or Ash or Aspen but not Sycamore or Yew.

Consufed · 22/01/2023 20:47

Yoghurt - the tokens on Yeo Valley yoghurts are called Yeokens.

It totally doesn't. There are plenty of tree names!
