Mabyn - it sounds made up to me - Merryn?

Inez - love it, although slightly prefer Ines spelling

Salome - Why would you do that? Selene (Sell-ee-nee) is much nicer, or something like Shalom or Shoshanna / Susannah

Marina - really nice

Silvia - nice enough - spell it Sylvia though or it will be a PITA for her

Magdalene - don’t be daft

Claudia - really nice

Celine - Dion. No. But Selene (Sell-ee-nee) or Selina are lovely

Delphina - meh and awkward to say. Diana is much nicer

Priscilla - no, too like Prissy. Paloma or Perdita?

Celestine - meh and awkward to say. Celeste is better. But something like Estella is much nicer.

Mabyn - not a fan. What's wrong with Mabel? Mabyn seems very trying to be different but it doesn't even have a nice sound. Sorry

Inez - it's ok, just not my style. I prefer Iona or Ingrid

Salome - not a fan again, sorry

Marina - pretty. I like it.

Silvia - it's ok

Magdalene - I like it, though slightly prefer Magdalena

Claudia - I like it in theory, but struggle to picture it on anybody under 60

Celine - very linked with Dion. I'm not a fan. I like Selina

Delphina - strangely prefer Delphine lol nice name though and Delphi is a cute NN

Priscilla - not a fan, reminds me of cats

Celestine - not a huge fan but it's ok

Mabyn is the name of a 6th century Cornish saint. All the names are saint names actually! I love Merryn - also a saint name coincidentally! Magdalena also beautiful. Ines is nice too, I like it with both an ‘s’ and a ‘z’

How about Celina?

Ohh Paloma also pretty!

Mabyn - Cornish saint. Looks masculine to me
Inez - prefer Ines
Salome - bring me the head of John the Baptist
Marina - 1970s car
Silvia - ok if italian
Magdalene - ok, a bit religious
Claudia - I, Claudius
Celine - Dion
Delphina
Priscilla
Celestine

Sorry, but they seem random. My favourite is Ines, with that spelling, but I suspect that some will not know how to pronounce it

DurdleSnore · 22/01/2023 16:56

I like Ines, Marina and Claudia from your list.

Purpletopaz42 · 22/01/2023 17:36

I really like Celine and Celestine, they're lovely names

TempsPerdu · 22/01/2023 21:11

Lots going on with this list OP - very mixed bag!

I really like Marina, and Inez, Claudia and Silvia are quite nice too (although I prefer it spelled Sylvia).

Mabyn - this looks odd, like a mash-up of Mabel and Robyn. I love the very similar Merryn though.

Salome - definitely not, too much Biblical baggage

Magdalene - ditto. Makes me think of nuns!

Celine - really pretty sound, but too closely linked to Dion. Selene?

Delphina - too fussy. Delphine is ok but I’m still not a big fan

Priscilla - definitely not, brings to mind Presley and the word ‘prissy’, plus the only obvious nickname is Cilla, which is dreadful.

Celestine - actually quite like this; has a very mellifluous sound but it’s a bit ‘much’ for a first name. Middle name maybe?

VanillaLife · 22/01/2023 21:18

Mabyn - Can’t think what it maybe shortened to. I don’t like the name.

Inez - I like it but prefer it spelt Ines

Salome - really don’t like it

Marina - it’s ok, but makes me think of string puppets.

Silvia - really like this. I think it would be nice on all ages.

Magdalene - don’t like it. I’m not sure why. It makes me think of crime fiction but I don’t know why.

Claudia - it’s ok.

Celine - just think of Celine Dion. To me it’s like calling a child Whitney.

Delphina - don’t like it.

Priscilla - they would ultimately get called Cilla. Again I get the old Celeb vibe.

Celestine - It’s ok.

Mumofgirls2017 · 22/01/2023 21:58

Delphine and Celeste are ok. Not keen on rest.

Mabyn
Bit weird and plain
Inez
Good strong name
Salome
Ok but not very happy feel for me. Too close to Solemn I guess
Marina
Good name
Silvia
Good pretty name
Magdalene
Strong name but I don't find it very pretty/lovely sounding. To me Magda is a bit harsh
Claudia
Fine
Celine
Ok
Delphina
Definite no from me.
Priscilla
Definite no too.
Celestine
Lovely
