Hi everyone,

we are expecting a girl after two boys. I thought a girl would be easier to name as I felt like we’d used our favourite boys names and wasn’t sure how we’d name another. But actually this seems harder!

I’d like a name that isn’t top 10 but isn’t too unusual either. Our boys names are top 30 and top 60 in last few years. Husband is v keen on Emily which I really don’t like (no idea why!) and I like Martha, which he doesn’t like 😅

Our surname starts with T which (for me at least) rules out names ending in T or D as they just don’t “flow” well. I really like some botanical names (Hazel, Violet, Olive) but our surname sounds a bit like tree so I don’t think they work.

Husband doesn’t want a name with the same first initial as any of the rest of us but if we do that there will be hardly any names left to choose from so I’m ignoring him on that one!! At least at this stage where we’re just trying to come up with a list of possibles.

Thanks in advance for any/all suggestions.

Thanks for the vote of confidence! I really like Matilda but sadly just don’t think it fits with our surname.

I love Martha and wanted it for dd2 but dh didn't like it, I wish I'd used it now though, we chose Charlotte in the end which I always feel is a bit bland.

Other names I liked were Eliza, Esther, Lily, Rosie, Beth and Nell.

NotABeliever · 20/01/2023 23:29

I love Audrey. Would that go with your surname? It's not super popular and so classic and elegant.

FredinBread · 21/01/2023 17:30

So many great suggestions, thank you!

Unfortunately all the ones I like keep being vetoed by DH. Good job we’ve got a couple of months to go!

I’m adding all the ones I like to my list so at least I will have lots of options I like and then maybe when she comes out we’ll be struck with inspiration!

Or maybe I can persuade DH to come round to one of the names I like as I’m not keen on anything he’s been suggesting either (his taste seems to be very traditional names, many of which just give me a ‘meh’ feeling. They’re perfectly ‘nice’ I just find them a bit boring)
