For a little girl- what do you think?

That's my friend's name. I love it. She hates it.

Orphlids · 10/01/2023 12:18

I really like it. It’s a lovely sound. And I like the Shakespearean link. I have found that some people, upon hearing the name, do think the child was named after the car, but I suppose this is a handy way to immediately detect the idiots.

tasamoon · 10/01/2023 12:19

I like it a lot.

SallyWD · 10/01/2023 12:20

It's very public schoolgirl name to me.

Viviennemary · 10/01/2023 12:21

I don't like it at all. Logically there is nothing wrong with it.

Readyforspringtime · 10/01/2023 12:22

It's Housewives of Atlanta for me!

Choconut · 10/01/2023 12:29

I loved it since the Get Along Gang porcupine called Portia was my favourite character as a child. So sweet.

Insomnia23 · 10/01/2023 22:36

Portia? Is it a real name?

Jeelypieces20storeys · 10/01/2023 23:50

Oh I love it! DH declared it too posh for us & wouldn't go for it but I think it's a beautiful classic.
I always go by, would I like to be called this? And I would.

inquisitorgeneral · 11/01/2023 08:56

I don't like it. It sounds exactly the same as the car which could lead to a lot of jokes and innuendo about "riding".

Goawayquickly · 11/01/2023 09:00

I really like it. It looks nice written, is phonetically pleasing and I think it’s an elegant name.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 11/01/2023 09:04

I really like it but ruled it out as too try hard. Unless you’re upper class I’m not sure you can get away with using it (which is ridiculous but people make judgements). In a state school she’ll end up called Porsche.

I love the comment suggesting it’s not a real name. I assume they’re not a fan of Shakespeare.

chouxfleur · 11/01/2023 09:06

PatriciaHolm · 10/01/2023 12:04

It just reminds me of A fish called Wanda!

I was going to say this! Portia is a rather stereotypical spoilt, posh girl who says things like "Daddy, I want a pony!" while her equally posh mother replies "Oh do shut up, Portia"

saraclara · 11/01/2023 09:11

Lovely name, but people will think it's Porsche.

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 11/01/2023 09:13

I love it. Immediately makes me think of Shakespeare.

MaverickGooseGoose · 11/01/2023 10:25

Di Rossi

I like it

Whataretheodds · 11/01/2023 11:09

Not a fan at all, but it's not a heinous crime against a child

DurdleSnore · 11/01/2023 12:46

Leading · 09/01/2023 20:23

White Lotus.

I immediately thought this too. I quite like it.

TabithaTittlemouse · 11/01/2023 12:50

It’s nice. I knew of a few Portia’s growing up but haven’t heard the name for years.

FredinBread · 21/01/2023 17:41

Reminds me of the pretentious bitch in Brigdgerton but will be a flash in the pan so go for it if you love it

Luredbyapomegranate · 21/01/2023 17:46

RambamThankyouMam · 10/01/2023 06:06

I hate it.

It sounds like "abortion."

That is insane

Calliell · 24/01/2023 03:10

It’s a bit of a ‘stripper’ name to me

rachelrainbow · 24/01/2023 08:02

Wow, this one has really split opinions! I’ve fallen in love with this name (indeed after White Lotus!)

This and too try hard.

I love the name Iona and if I had another daughter then 8 would have named her this.

Andanotherone01 · 24/01/2023 20:31

I’m sure there was a cartoon or book when I was a child in the 80s with a dog called Portia (it may have been a cheerleader). So the name just makes me think of that
