Eden for a girl

I think it’s so beautiful but I’ve seen comments on here saying it’s ‘chavvy’ 😞 My other children have biblical slightly puritan style names (nothing too ‘out there’! OT boy name, NT girl name and a virtue name). I think Eden is lovely and would go really nice but I’m worried about whether naming her a name perceived as ‘chavvy’ would affect her in later life in terms of job opportunities etc. what do you think of Eden?

I like it. Don't think of it as chavvy at all.

yorkshirepudsx · 09/01/2023 00:15

Im not keen on the name, I wouldn't say it was chavvy but I personally don't like it

But it's ultimately your choice! Have to remember that younger generations won't have the same views on names as we do, etc,

Like how we see old peoples names as old peoples names, they were once younger people with different opinions of them names. Times change and I feel like though it's good to get others opinions sometimes, if you love a name go for it!

(And I only dislike it because a girl I went to school with was called that and she was a prick, but if she was nice I'd probably like it, the people saying it's chavvy probably went to school with a chav with that name)

I love it. It's the name a relative gave to his DD, the first time anyone in the family had ever strayed from the unofficial 'approved family list', but even the baby's rather conservative grandfather thought it was lovely.

Joolsin · 09/01/2023 00:18

I think it's very pretty and not in the least bit chavvy. I have heard it as a nickname for Edith, which I also like.

mathanxiety · 09/01/2023 00:19

Family far from 'ch#÷÷&' fwiw.

mathanxiety · 09/01/2023 00:24

You could team it with a solidly traditional middle name if you wanted to bolster the credibility (for want of a better word) -

Eden Katherine
Eden Frances
Eden Eleanore
Eden Eloise
Eden Mary
Eden Elizabeth
Eden Rebecca
Eden Abigail

I don't think chavvy. Don't know any Eden's, might think you were a bit alternative/hippy if I heard the name.

SabbatWheel · 09/01/2023 00:26

I’ve taught two Edens and they’ve both been male. I don’t think of it as a female name.

RideMeStallion · 09/01/2023 01:07

Eden is a really lovely name. I’m a teacher and have only taught girl Edens who have all been well-behaved and diligent so I have good associations with it. It’s a strong choice which seems “now” but is also traditional.

Twoinapod · 09/01/2023 06:59

I know of an Eden, her mother is a teacher, definitely not chavvy. It’s a lovely name

DuchessOfSausage · 09/01/2023 10:00

Not keen. Too surnamey and too vowelly.
A bit of a wispy naturey name.
Edie is ok but too similar to Evie, which is prettier.

OfMark87 · 09/01/2023 10:13

I love it.
It was top of my list for my last baby but he was a boy 😂

RenoDakota · 09/01/2023 10:22

It is a beautiful name and not chavvy at all. I know one - goes by Edie, which is lovely too.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 09/01/2023 10:26

I think it's a lovely name. Has a nice grown up sound.

I love it.
It was top of my list for my last baby but he was a boy 😂

Can be a boys' name too! (although I wouldn't personally use it as a boys' name)

Velvetbee · 09/01/2023 10:40

It’s beautiful, I know a wonderful, teenage one.

RuthW · 09/01/2023 12:17

Eden isn't chqvvy at all for a little girl.

MessiTheGoat · 09/01/2023 13:11

Eden is a lovely name!

WoolyMammoth55 · 09/01/2023 13:14

My god daughter's name, so beautiful <3

I've never heard it for a boy, that's weird to me.

I think it's a lovely girl's name, and very strong.
