Cora? Becoming popular?

I really like this name at the moment. Classy, known but I feel underused, still a little different. What do you think? Is it growing in popularity?

One in my grandson's class.

dontcallmelen · 02/01/2023 13:41

I know a Cora she is eight nearly nine, I’m with the other poster reminds me of apple core.

Babdoc · 02/01/2023 13:42

My late MIL, born in the 1920s, was always known as Cora. She was Dutch, and it was a diminutive of her full name Cornelia.
Nice to see it coming back into fashion.

AllyCatTown · 02/01/2023 13:48

Does it matter if it later booms in popularity? It’s always better to be ahead of popularity as her immediate peers won’t have the name.

It’s nice so if you like it go for it.

MyEasterEggs · 02/01/2023 16:22

I have a DD8 named Cora. I fell in love with it when I heard it and still love it, as does my partner and family. People often comment on how pretty it is, and it’s also slightly edgy I think. She carries it well.

You could overthink any name and come up with negative connotations. My FIL called her chicken pakora once (🖕🏻) and someone mentioned it was a supermarket chain…two negative comments in 8 years really hasn’t swayed me.

The name was about 125 she was born and had crept up in 8 years but is a slow climber. I’d still use it now!

I have one. Quite a few people have told me that their friend/cousin/neighbour has just had a baby and named them Cora but I've never actually met another (apart from a dog).

Fun fact: my dad told me yesterday that the NatWest automated voice thing is called Cora. Maybe that is a bad sign 😂

Mummytobe333 · 05/01/2023 15:10

Love the name Cora! Was our baby girls name until last minute when she was born went with Thea instead (went better with Surname)

Its definitely growing (in top 100) but not majorly popular like in the top 10.

I like names that are not overly popular but not unheard of either.

RambamThankyouMam · 05/01/2023 22:47

Not a fan.

It sounds like a sleazy cockney geezer saying "Cor.... A -" and then some misogynistic slur about a woman.

Cora in my language means the hard edges of the bread

Ah loosely translating to 'the best bit'

dancinfeet · 05/01/2023 23:09

I know a 6 year old Cora

MulderitsmeX · 05/01/2023 23:19

I only know one

SemperIdem · 05/01/2023 23:56

I know one, she’s 6/7.

I think it’s a lovely name and relatively unusual where I live.

But names can have pockets of popularity. I was amazed to read on here that Georgia is relatively unusual, because there are lots where I live and that’s been the case since I was a child!

DurdleSnore · 06/01/2023 07:27

I love Cora. Also reminds me of Last of the Mohicans. I know a 5 year old Cora too!

timetorefresh · 06/01/2023 07:51

Only ever taught one in 20 years and she was lovely

thatsmustard · 09/01/2023 02:11

I know 3 born in 2022

mathanxiety · 09/01/2023 03:02

Irish granny name.

I laughed when I saw it was the name of the Countess of Grantham on Downton Abbey. No way would an American heiress have been given the name of her family's scullery maid.

I know three little Coras in the US.

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 09/01/2023 03:08

Mexicola · 01/01/2023 21:57

It will be more popular since Downtown Abbey.

This

TheOrigRights · 09/01/2023 03:08

Cora is the rather useless NatWest banking app chat bot.

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 09/01/2023 03:15

To me, it's as far from 'pretty' as it's possible to get! Utterly frumpy and sounds like a kitchen implement.

Viviennemary · 23/04/2023 00:20

I quite like it although its unusual. I have never known a Cora.

notangelinajolie · 23/04/2023 00:31

Love Cora. Very cool and very Downton.
Not Cara.

AnotherRoadsideAttraction · 23/04/2023 00:45

I know of two under age 5, but I wouldn’t say it’s super popular. Lovely name.

fairycupcakes · 23/04/2023 09:23

I think it’s really pretty. Probably most popular since Downton Abbey as a PP has mentioned.
Also Cara & Clara :)

fairycupcakes · 23/04/2023 09:23

Sorry *more popular since Downton Abbey

MargotEdithAgnes · 23/04/2023 10:15

I only know one and I work in a school and see a lot of names!

I do see it mentioned on here a lot though so it's possible it's more popular but those kids aren't at school yet so I've not seen them
