What is everyone’s opinion of this name?. I have fell in love with it a bit, we have a DS named Adam and I’ve struggled to find boys names that I love. Are there any negative connotations with the name?

I also think Tate & Lyle syrup but if that's not an issue for you OP then it's fine.

resm · 27/12/2022 22:34

There’s a 3/4 year old Lyle in my son’s nursery class and it’s just made me fall in love with it. It’s not a name you’re likely to hear day to day, but it’s recognisable & memorable and, on a little boy, sweet. I think of Silas or Len being a similar vibe.

No

KeepingTheWaterOut · 27/12/2022 22:52

Another Scot here, who thinks it's a perfectly normal name. I've never heard of the Lyle I know having any issues with his name.

SemperIdem · 28/12/2022 00:46

It’s a really ugly name. Especially compared to an all time classic like Adam.

Luredbyapomegranate · 28/12/2022 01:34

The bloke that was married to Julia Roberts for 5 mins..

It’s ok, it’s a 50s Americana type name like Austin, or I dunno.. chip

Adam is a lot nicer

How about Laurence, or Caleb or something with some cultural weight, like Adam.

Sounds like liar.

If you’re speaking English, it really doesn’t!

Judgyjudgy · 28/12/2022 02:16

Old man vibe

mathanxiety · 28/12/2022 02:38

I like it. It's definitely Scottish imo and also has a country music vibe, but classier than the usual country music

flirtygirl · 28/12/2022 03:10

Serial killer name.

Also one called Adam and one called Lyle. Sounds like you hate your second child...

Nofilter90 · 28/12/2022 03:32

Another scot here, I have a 10 year old called Lyle.

evemillbank · 28/12/2022 03:37

It's a shame to give your first child such a lovely name and not do the same for your second child.

Alfur · 28/12/2022 04:06

I really like it. A lot. I vaguely know a guy (aged early 50s) called Lyle, and he's really lovely. I say go for it!

user1492757084 · 28/12/2022 05:11

My Dad had an old friend called Lyle. He was a gentleman and a skilled worker with a sense of humour.

That taints my view of the name. It's a strong name.

I’m not sure how you’ve come to the conclusion that I hate my second child based off a perfectly fine name. If I was planning on calling him shit head or something similar then I’d understand🙄.

Not a fan of Laurence or Caleb unfortunately but thank you for the suggestion

I do like Silas and Len too.

I really like it. But anything on MN that may remotely be surname related will get hate.

windandtherain · 28/12/2022 14:18

I’m from Scotland so it is a bit more common for me. But now I’m slightly put off by the PP saying it sounds like I hate my child.

Dreadful. Will be in a class with Lila, Isla, Lyla and Delilah

We’re in a remote area and the classes are small and I know of one Isla around here but none of the other names. But it also wouldn’t bother me if he was in a class with people with this name. Not sure why it would?
