What do you think for the name Evangelia for a baby girl?

Are you an Evangelical family? If not then no.

Beigecurtain · 26/12/2022 19:27

What do you mean? No we are not.

Is the British version of the name Evangelia ,Evangeline, used only by Evangelican families?

I prefer Evangeline but both are pretty :)

I do always think though what would their nickname at school be and see if I like the sound of that too. Cause we as parents might call our kids by their full name but guarenteed the kids at school won't 😅

Cryingbutstilltrying · 26/12/2022 19:37

It would be misspelled and said as Evangelina I think.
I have an Evangeline, she’s Evie day to day. Eva would also work.
It is a bit of a mouthful, not sure why we did it but I wanted a longer birth certificate name.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 26/12/2022 19:39

It's not a name that is in common use
Evangeline or Evangelina are both ok. Evangelia is not good.

This. It’s a bit of a mouthful for an ‘everyday’ name and she would likely be called Eve/Evie or similar. Do you like that as a nickname?

FayCarew · 26/12/2022 19:47

I don't like it at all, and she'll be yet another Evie or Eva.

Both are very pretty

Fleur405 · 26/12/2022 19:51

I’m afraid I don’t like it - it’s very vowelly. Much prefer Evangeline.

BuffaloCauliflower · 26/12/2022 19:52

I’ve never heard of it, but Evangeline is nice.

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 26/12/2022 19:58

It sounds a little like a syndrome.

Evangeline is much nicer.

Rickandmortified100 · 27/12/2022 06:07

I love Evangeline and Evangelina but Evangelia sounds a bit… medical? To me.

sanityisamyth · 27/12/2022 06:09

I can't figure out how to pronounce it. Where to put the stress! I have a friend who is Evangeline and she hates it and Evie for short.

merrymelodies · 27/12/2022 06:11

Angelica?

GeorgiaGirl52 · 27/12/2022 06:21

Do you mean "Evangelica"? I think it is lovely. It is not a "Christian only" name.
There is an Evangeline in "Nanny McPhee" movie.
The nickname is usually Angel - not Evie.

fallfallfall · 27/12/2022 06:24

Ee-van-jelly-ya
its quite the mouthful.

midsomermurderess · 27/12/2022 07:11

I find it a bit unwieldy. Didn’t Bruce Forsyth’s wife have a name along those lines? Clunky.

BCBird · 27/12/2022 07:16

N I don't like it. Any name that is going to.cause a child to have to correct pronunciation is a pain for them.and those who get it wrong.

Ydkiml · 27/12/2022 07:20

I think it’s too long . Polly is nice , or Elsie , something shorter .

MargaretMead · 27/12/2022 07:32

I work with an Evangeline and everyone calls her Ange :)

Mercurial123 · 27/12/2022 07:55

It sounds a religious name. I have a Filipino friend with that name.

Krakenwakes · 27/12/2022 07:59

I’ve never heard of it. Evangeline is better. But I would assume you were very religious. It’s not exactly mainstream.

Nordix · 27/12/2022 08:13

I once worked with a doctor who was an Evangelia, she hated her name and went by Lia.

TheHauntedPencilCase · 27/12/2022 08:19

I couldn't work out how to pronounce it but that's something that can be learned just be conscious of putting that burden on a child and start thinking about what nickname you will want to encourage. My children have long bc names and a shortened form for every day use that I encourage. It's not a name I'm keen on (although I like angelica and evangeline) but again I wouldn't let that put you off.

LaLuz7 · 27/12/2022 08:25

It's literally the Latin word for gospels.

Sounds weird to me. Not a proper recognizable name like Evangeline. And I would hate the religious undertone too.
