Rupert

Can I get some honest opinions on Rupert please? It has always been one of my favourite names - I think of it as strong and classic. However, I recently read a few comments about how ridiculous people think it is! It's currently at the top of my list for baby due next year (we don't know the gender yet).

Thanks!

Thanks so much everyone! I've read all your comments - seems very split! I am actually in country-living Surrey where there are many braying toffs with red trousers and shotguns so I don't think it would bring the same sniggering connotations as some suggests it might in other areas.

I love Roo or Rupe as nicknames too. :)

I love it but DH vetoed it for our boys.

No it's awful
Rueben would be a good alternative
Give your child a proper name not a joke

I have a penchant for that style of name but don't really like Rupert. There was a baby Rupert in DDs class and I just thought it seemed a bizarre choice. Also a baby Geoffrey!

Definitely a "posh" name... makes me think of Rupert Campbell-Black from Jilly Cooper novels, a hero at the time but, 30 years later, a horrible character..

What did you end up calling your son? My Rupert is 5 years old and everyone comments saying it's a fantastic name. Maybe they're being two faced but I think it's a great name. Reuben and Rufus are not better names. Some of the commenters on here are rude. I'd love to hear their childrens name so I can comment on how bratty they sound.

Eh? Not everyone's going to like
Your child's name. I know not everyone will like my children's names. Calm down, it's not a personal attack.

You've obviously gone searching for specific threads about this name, as it's a zombie thread. What did you expect. 😂
No one cares about your darling Rupert's name as much as you do.

CuteCillian · 16/09/2024 16:24

Ahhh JaneyG1, congrats on your little Rupert. It is a nice name imo. I know a Rupert in his 50's - really good bloke with a penchant for a vintage sports car-and a three year old one, he is also into his cars!
Must say I like Rufus as well. In my mind they are similar names to Toby/Tobias.

MyBigFatGreekSalad · 16/09/2024 17:15

Rupert to me is a middle age man who wears Ralph Lauren, enjoys hunting, drives a Range Rover and calls his parents mummy and daddy.

redtrain123 · 16/09/2024 17:17

I really like it (and alot better than the ubiquitous Teddy).

What?! This a forum to express opinions on names and thankfully we all have different tastes!! Hmm

Personally I dislike Rupert. I also struggle with my R and Wupert sounds even worse
