Hey all,

What do you think of this name for a baby girl?

Pronounced as Cleh-Leah , with emphasis on the first syllable.

Clelia should be pronounced in the beginning with “K” like Cleo, not “S” like Cecilia.

Does it sound that bad…?!

It's awful. ☹️

RedRobintweets · 14/12/2022 13:50

Yes, you are right. It’s a shorter sound than Leah but I doubt everyone in this thread would like it if I wrote “lia” rather than “Leah” …

There was one on TOWIE. She pronounced it like klee-leah, and I did think it seemed a clunky kind of name.

2Rebecca · 14/12/2022 13:55

No for the reasons given

VivaVivaa · 14/12/2022 13:56

I’d read it Cleh-Leah. It’s clunky and sounds like it could be a brand of female hygiene product if I’m honest. Sorry.

Swissnotswiss · 14/12/2022 14:03

I know an Italian Clelia. She is very nice but I dont really like the name!

LadyDanburysHat · 14/12/2022 14:06

I think it sounds clunky, and difficult. I also think it would be pronounced Clee-lia rather than Cleh-lia

treadcarefully · 14/12/2022 14:06

There was a girl in towie called this

MaydinEssex · 14/12/2022 14:06

Someone who used to be on TOWIE was called Clelia

treadcarefully · 14/12/2022 14:07

@MaydinEssex Snap!

toastofthetown · 14/12/2022 14:08

I like Cloelia, but not a fan of Clelia. It feels a bit too busy sonically for me.

BackInTheDales · 14/12/2022 14:11

MaydinEssex · 14/12/2022 14:06

Someone who used to be on TOWIE was called Clelia

I was going to say this. It sounds awkward to me, not sure why.

romdowa · 14/12/2022 14:15

Sorry but it sounds like a medical term of some sort.

Prettypennies · 14/12/2022 14:17

I prefer the name Clio

Spenn · 14/12/2022 14:18

What about Cleonie or Calista or Clarissa or Celeste?

sevenbyseven · 14/12/2022 14:19

I first assumed it was a typo, then made-up, but I see it's a real name...

I'm not convinced it works well in English sorry. I prefer similar names like Cleo / Chloe / Celia etc etc.

VeryQuaintIrene · 14/12/2022 14:20

It's derived from the Roman woman Cloelia who was a total heroine in early Roman history, but yes, does sound a bit medical and genital today, unfortunately.

rippleraspberry · 14/12/2022 14:23

It looks like it has a typo in it.

I thought you were asking about 'Cecilia' / 'Celia' but spelt it wrong.

Aftersevens · 14/12/2022 14:25

I knew an Italian girl called Clelia. I thought it was a beautiful name……..but she was a beautiful girl, so my opinion might be skewed.

CaptainMyCaptain · 14/12/2022 14:25

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 14/12/2022 13:39

Honestly, it sounds like you'd have a speech impediment

This.

It sounds like a made up name.

Hopelessacademic · 14/12/2022 14:26

awful sorry

LienD · 14/12/2022 14:26

it's a snake... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clelia_clelia

Unicorn717 · 14/12/2022 14:29

rubyslippers · 14/12/2022 13:40

It looks like you’ve misspelled celia

I thought it said this when I first read it.

HiDeDi · 14/12/2022 14:29

As someone with a name that is spelt very differently to how it is pronounced please don’t give your child this name.

if you insist start it with a K so people have at least got a fighting chance of saying it correctly.

CovertImage · 14/12/2022 14:30

It's giving me "Magrat" vibes
