Classic or dated? Due a comeback? Weird associations?

I love it, classic name

KirstenBlest · 30/11/2022 08:06

@mishi, the Diana pronunciation is used in other European countries, but the spelling is different. Dayana, Ντάιάνα etc

Which nice nicknames?

I was wondering that. I can only think of Di. Saying that I do think Diana, though dated, is actually a beautiful name OP.

Have you been watching The Crown OP?

dancingqueen123 · 30/11/2022 08:11

I prefer Danilella.

Ha! Yes. Sorry not got my glasses on!

savehannah · 30/11/2022 08:16

I would think of the princess for sure but also I can't think of any nicknames apart from Di which sounds a bit horrid imho.

ThatshallotBaby · 30/11/2022 08:18

Grin @dancingqueen123

Enko · 30/11/2022 08:18

I like it a lot as a name.

I am Scandinavian and as said earlier we pronounce it Dee Anna rather than Di Anna

I loke both and I dont mind the nm Di. Or Dee.

We however were expecting out first in 1997. So did not so so.

Deedee. Or Dee-a if you go for the European pronunciation which I much prefer

KirstenBlest · 30/11/2022 08:41

Nicknames can be anything, but diminutives could be Di, Dee, Dinah...

PinkSyCo · 30/11/2022 08:43

Deedee is awful.

toastofthetown · 30/11/2022 09:02

I love Diana, and would consider using it if I had a girl. It’s classic, elegant, easy to say and pronounce, not too popular, travels well internationally. And I’m not a royal family fan at all. I think trying to use the European pronunciation (if you have no links with a country which uses that pronunciation) would be an uphill battle.

KirstenBlest · 30/11/2022 09:09

When I was young, Grace was too closely associated with Princess Grace.
Princess Di won't mean much to the DC born today.
It was a bit of a joke in France that P.Charles was to marry La Didi.

HauntedPencil · 30/11/2022 09:45

I think it's a really beautiful name maybe a bit dated but I agree it's one that might come back.

gaf · 30/11/2022 09:52

Not a fan. I know a Diana in her 20s and it just feels too old for her. Plus Di is not nice.

I actually really like Dayana.

stackedcrepemuncher · 30/11/2022 10:01

Really like Diana, chic elegant name.

Really dislike Di.

I think forcing the Dee-ana pronunciation if English would be burdensome.

KirstenBlest · 30/11/2022 10:08

@softpilllow , Dayana is pronounced Diana, as is Ντάιάνα.The greek 'diana' (Ντιάνα) is pronounced Dee-Anna.

Rarenamer · 30/11/2022 10:10

NN I like are Dee-Dee and Ana

minticecreamisjustok · 30/11/2022 10:12

Dated
