How would you spell a name that is pr. approx. yahs-meen?

How would you pr. Yasmine?

Jasmine or Yasmine (if Yasmine was yahs-meen)?

Hmm, good question. I think Yasmine would become YASS-minn and Jasmine JAZZ-minn. Not sure what spelling would make it -meen other than just telling people each time!

Hotmess1 · 29/11/2022 20:00

Yasmeen

wlv12 · 29/11/2022 20:02

Yasmine = Yas-minn
Yasmeen = yahs-meen
Jasmine = Jas-minn

Talipesmum · 29/11/2022 20:02

In English, I’d pronounce Yasmine “yahs-‘meen”. I’d pronounce Jasmine or Jasmin “jazz-minn”. I’d pronounce Yasmin “yahs-minn”.
I think I’d probably put emphasis on the first syllable for all of them, though I’d expect it to be on the second syllable in other languages.

I also recognise that other languages would be likely to pronounce “Jasmine” with a “y” but it wouldn’t ever be my first guess in the UK when reading the name.

Yasmine could be Yas-min or Yas-meen to me.

And Yas-meen could be spelled Yasmin or Yasmeen.

BabyYoZenZen · 29/11/2022 20:14

The Yasmeen spelling looks VERY wrong to me?!

Maybe Yasmine would be your best bet.

Rauha · 29/11/2022 20:19

To me, Yasmine is Yahs-MEEN

Luredbyapomegranate · 29/11/2022 20:52

Yasmine

If you spell it Jasmine it will be said like the flower.

fairycupcakes · 29/11/2022 21:51

Yasmine could be either pronunciation I think!

I’d be inclined to say Yas-meen if I saw Yasmine and Yas-minn if I saw Yasmin - as both the the “Yas-minn’s” I know spell it Yasmin.

Jasmin/Jasmine would be Jas-minn because the name is after the flower.

Yasmine is Yahs-MEEN
