Variation of Isla, which looks better?

Just need some perspective please
We're Muslim so would like the Arabic/Turkish variation of Isla
So either
Aila or Ayla or even Iyla.

Any help, thanks!

I would say I- la for Aila and Ay- la for Ayla. So I suppose it depends on how you want it pronounced!
Don't like Iyla 😇

Theoldwoman · 28/11/2022 20:54

Ayla

EyeCand · 28/11/2022 20:58

@spanieleyes Both would be pronounced as Eye-Lah, agree, Iyla isn't my favourite either

I would pronounce aila and Ayla like ay-La (ay to rhyme with day).

prefer spelling Ayla though

AllyCatTown · 28/11/2022 21:02

Ayla- I think that would get pronounced correctly more often.

Lurkerlot · 28/11/2022 21:02

Lyra.

DandelionPockets · 28/11/2022 21:04

Iyla is really lovely.

changingroom · 28/11/2022 21:05

Ayla

MolesOnPoles · 28/11/2022 21:07

Ayla! DNiece is an Ayla and she never has any pronunciation or spelling issues, and it’s a fab name.

caitlinrose · 28/11/2022 21:19

Is Iyla really a Muslim version? It looks very misspelt and I can't find any sources that it is legit. Google says Aila is Finnish.

I only know that in Turkish Iyla and Ayla wouldn't sound the same. I can only think of I sounding like "eye" in English. In most other cultures it sounds like "ee". So Iyla would sound like ee-la in most languages.

Ayla is nice but she'll get "ay-la". Aila looks okay too but she may also get "ay-la".

I'd honestly stick with Isla if you want to make it easy for her. Otherwise Ayla but she'll correct people a lot.

You may know more than I do but I honestly couldn''t find any legit source of Iyla or Aila being Muslim names. Even Ayla is not really a religious name it simply means "moon/halo" in some languages, one of them Turkish which doesn't seem to be religious but more of a nature name.

incywincyspiders · 28/11/2022 21:20

Aila! Is my favourite name 😍

Daijoubudesu · 28/11/2022 21:22

I know a 9 year old Iyla of Indian heritage and I've never heard it pronounced correctly.

Suboptimalsitch · 28/11/2022 21:27

I like Lyla.

also love Laila and Aaliyah .

Luredbyapomegranate · 28/11/2022 23:27

Ayla is going to be easiest by far

Djorkaeff · 28/11/2022 23:41

I know two Ailas and they are both pronounced Ay-la

What about Kyla?

KirstenBlest · 29/11/2022 07:56

Laila (Lyle-a)

SallyWD · 29/11/2022 08:15

Ayla

Bunda · 29/11/2022 08:20

Ayla

TakeMe2Insanity · 29/11/2022 19:30

Waseem Akram’s daughter’s spelling is Aysla.

Agree it’s not a particularly religious name if thats what you are looking for.

BabyYoZenZen · 29/11/2022 20:15

Ayla

SheWoreARaspberryBeret123 · 29/11/2022 20:25

Hey Op, would you use the Persian pronunciation?
I like Ayla best.

I really love the name Ayala but that's Hebrew.

changingitforthisone · 29/11/2022 23:10

A previous colleague of mine who is muslim named her daughter Aaila. I have always assumed it's pronounced same as Isla 🤷🏼‍♀️

Fivebeanchilli · 29/11/2022 23:15

I think Ayla.
I would be tempted to say ay - la for Aila instead of eye - la.
Iyla I probably would get right as I know an Iyra but they aren't Muslim - they're Hindu so that's confusing me a bit
I know a couple of Aylas who are Turkish and the pronunciation seems fairly intuitive.

Dontaskdontget · 29/11/2022 23:26

Ayla is lovely.

Aila doesn’t look right, perhaps because a written down yell is sometimes “Aiiiii!”
