Between the song and the biblical story, it doesn't seem like a great choice to me.

Agree.

Oops, meant to agree with this one! 😂

It’s my favourite girls name atm .

I just can't get past the biblical context of the name, so it's too loaded a name for me.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 24/11/2022 06:09

As a stoke fan .. no I wouldn't

Mrstwiddle · 24/11/2022 06:11

Another one agreeing that the biblical reference makes it a no goer.

When she's older, close friends are likely to affectionately slip into calling her Lyla, as these are the two syllable sounds in the name which are most prominent. I can't see close friends always saying Delilah. Unless she is always 'Dee Dee', from the start, then that will be used. But Dee Dee doesn't really sound like Delilah, so you've almost lost the name.

That would be the problem for me that it is likely to get shortened away from the name. Lyla sounds like other very popular names: Layla, Lilla, Lola, which maybe isn't the effect you are going for.

@HotchPotched , it's not unusual (TJ reference intended Smile).
It's in the top 50 names used in England & Wales last year. It also falls into the Lily, Lila, Layla, Lola, Lyra, Luna type names so is a bit samey.
@Jamesandthegiantpeach74 , people would compliment the name anyway.

I like it but yes I get Tom Jones singing in my head and now tnx to this thread I'm also singing hey there Delilah. Very odd combo w Tom's voice..
Ita anoretty name though

For me the associations to woman I song and Bible are so strong to make the name unusable. Have you read the story lately? Thankfully Jezebel is not a name that has become popular
