I really like Lincoln, but my dh doesn't love it. I'd like to get other peoples opinions please? Dh likes Sage, but I'm really not sure about it. We're finding it very hard to come to an agreement.

Yes for a boy. I agree, I think it's a cool name.

Yes you're all right about Sage, it's awful isn't it!? I think it's more commonly a girls name. I actually like it for a girl, but not at all for a boy.

It looks like it's back to the drawing board for us. Any names similar Lincoln?

Lennox
Lennon
Logan

KirstenBlest · 20/11/2022 07:27

Lincoln is fine other than being a place name and the surname of a POTUS, but it'll get shortened to Linc.
Sage is dreadful, but fine as a name for accounting software. Too closely associated with '& Onion'.

Greytea · 20/11/2022 07:31

Not Lincoln. A small town/city in the UK. Doesn’t inspire any images of greatness and enthusiasm and excitement to me.
Sage is OK - for a girl.

Greytea · 20/11/2022 07:34

Colm?
Leo?
Lucas?

KirstenBlest · 20/11/2022 07:38

@Greytea , it's a smallish city, but wouldn't be a small town. It has a beautiful cathedral.

Not keen on Lincoln.

How about Luton?

As in the airport?

Yes, I suppose I should have said small city/town, not the other way round. I wasn’t sure if whether it was a city or not.

KirstenBlest · 20/11/2022 08:15

@Greytea , it's been a city for centuries. Smile

LadyWithLapdog · 20/11/2022 08:16

Both dreadful, sorry.

Not specifically the airport, more just the place.

Or Loughborough?

Slightly off topic:
Does anyone remember Lincoln Biscuits?
Loved them. I don't think you can get them any more.

The biscuits were my first thought

Luredbyapomegranate · 20/11/2022 15:45

Don't like Lincoln (it's an OK place but not sos I want to be named after it) really don't like Sage (might be the stuffing or that it sounds like rage)

Got anything else?

Ihavehadenoughalready · 20/11/2022 18:01

I like Lincoln, and think of Abraham Lincoln, whom I admire.

TempyBrennan · 20/11/2022 18:05

My friend has a Lincoln, he really suits it and it’s lovely with his brothers name. when she first told me I want for or against it though.

RambamThankyouMam · 20/11/2022 18:11

Both foul names.

fortifiedwithtea · 20/11/2022 18:15

Would you consider Forest instead?

Yika · 20/11/2022 18:45

Love the name Lincoln.

how about
Lisle
Leon

mustardcustard · 20/11/2022 20:19

It's tough because as much as I love the name Lincoln, I really don't want to give my child a name that most people seem to dislike (is that bad?). Some lovely name suggestions, thank you.

Strokethefurrywall · 20/11/2022 20:27

I loved Lincoln (I know a 3 year old Lincoln), and it very briefly made the list when pregnant with DS2 until we realized that we would look like POTUS but jobs given DS1 is called Carter.

Linc is a great nn too. That being said we're not in UK so doesn't have same negative connotations I suppose.

bewarethetides · 20/11/2022 20:30

I actually like the name Lincoln, but I imagine a lot of people will think you've named him after a tv show character (The 100) or the American President.

Sage is a girl's name.

Possible alternatives to Lincoln:

Landon
Lachlan
Hudson
Holden

Ilovedthe70s · 20/11/2022 20:32

Sylvester Stallone’s son was called Sage.
I like it.
As a pp said Lincoln were biscuits, very nice biscuits too.
