Robyn.. but different!

my name is Robyn. I hate it. I’ve always disliked the name and I’ve been thinking about changing it for a while, I don’t want anything too different since I’ve been Robyn for nearly 30 years, but it just doesn’t “fit”.
i was thinking of re-naming myself something Robyn could be short for and Roberta is all I’ve come up with, but Roberta has been something people have called me in a “jokey” way and I’m worried they’ll think it’s just an extension of the joke! Plus it’s very similar to my original name.

Bobbie and Robbie are both off the cards, as close family members have those names, can anyone add anything creative?

What about something bird like...then it's still linked to your original name.

Wren, Ava, Raven.

Daisy62 · 19/11/2022 01:44

I have an ancestor called Robina who was known as Ruby.

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 19/11/2022 01:56

teezletangler · 19/11/2022 02:02

I was going to suggest this - I love Wren

Robyn is a great name. I nearly called my dd it and often wish I had.

TheBirdintheCave · 19/11/2022 13:40

I quite like it :) People do mishear it all the time though so when I introduce myself my name is often followed with '...like the bird'.

I know it probably doesn't help but I just came to say I think Robyn is a beautiful name and I've only ever met lovely ones. Other names and people it puts me in mind of are Merryn (Merry), Rowena (only ever met graceful and beautiful Rowena's!), and Rose/Rosie.

Exactly the same experience. I didn't have the best school experience knew an absolutely LOVELY Robyn at school. She's one of the few people I wish I had have kept in touch with (I've tried finding her on fb etc just to say hello as I am friends with some people from school on there) but nobody I am in touch with knows what happened with her after school. I think of her often.

I've worked with 2 since and they've been exceptionally good people. I wonder if it really is in the name 😂

sodabreadjam · 19/11/2022 22:22

I knew someone called Roanna. I love that name.

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 19/11/2022 22:28

I changed my first name from a long one to a diminutive form (eg Elizabeth to Bessie).
With that in mind here are some of the things my DSis Robyn gets it shortened to:
Bobbin
Bobby
Ruben
Roo
Ruby (actually we sing Robyn Robyn Robyn Robyn… ahhhhahhhahhh like the song Ruby)
Bertie (Robyn… Robert… Roberta… Bertie)
Bobbers (probably not good for Sunday best lol).

MagnoliatheMagnificent · 19/11/2022 22:32

Rebecca
Rowan
Does it have to start with R?

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 19/11/2022 22:34

Ooh what about Margot like Margot Robbe?
Or if you want the bird connection Wren
Or Christmassy? Holly?

KirstenBlest · 20/11/2022 19:53

@melchim , Bronwyn is horrible but Bronwen is nice. -wyn names in Welsh are men's names.

@TwelveThirty , Rae is a scottish surname

Iizzyb · 20/11/2022 22:00

Don't be Brianna op. Preston's shrieky wife? Just No 😂😂

BrutusMcDogface · 20/11/2022 22:05

I think Ruby is perfect as it’s really close to Robyn and could be a diminutive, seeing as you can’t use Robbie.

A pp’s suggestion of Bobbalina sounds good, too! 😉 😂

mumonherphone · 21/11/2022 23:40

Bob

Gunpowder · 22/11/2022 06:05

I know a Row which I like.
