If you haven't decided by now then wait until she is born. I couldnt decide between two names even when in hospital at 42 weeks. Once they put her in my arms I knew which one. She looked like the name belonged to her, the other didn't. You really do have time Smile

Cherryblossoms85 · 10/11/2022 00:24

Just pick 2 or 3 and then see which one fits. that's what we did and it's a name on your list 🙂

Itsme85 · 10/11/2022 00:24

Thank you for the comforting words. Any help in narrowing it down to two would be appreciated 😂

I honestly wouldn't worry too much. I had a shortlist of girls names and a shortlist of boys names. 3 on each.

When DS2 was born (at 41+3) he ended up with one that had never been on the list, let alone the shortlist!

But from your list I like Thea, Freyja and Ingrid best.

Good luck. Going over due is rubbish.

20viona · 10/11/2022 00:41

Maeva is my fave

toomuchlaundry · 10/11/2022 00:44

DS was named in the delivery room with a name that wasn’t on our list, a name that we hadn’t even thought of before!

HerReputationMadeItDifficultToProceed · 10/11/2022 01:20

Okay, so I am a teacher and tend to think of names in terms of both what they sound like and if I like them, as well as their potential for problems in school, especially pronunciation and whether there's a clear avenue for piss-taking by some little twat when they're 14. Therefore I'm coming at it from that angle and apologise if I'm trashing something that you really love. Excuse my bluntness but it's 1am and I'm awake with a filthy cold so my opinions here are unfiltered!

Caveat: as PP said, at this point it may well be worth waiting until she's born entirely or having a shortlist of three or four that you decide on once she's here. With both of ours my DH and I had a couple of names we had agreed were goers and once they were born we both said simultaneously "oh she looks like a..." in the delivery room. It just felt obvious immediately.

So, with all that said, from your list:

Love
** Frieda
Thora

Don't Mind
Thea
Freya (but not Freja, poor kid will spend her life with teachers asking her how it's pronounced and other kids calling her Fridge)
Reya
Ingrid

Hate
** Maeva (nightmare to pronounce, only anyone Irish or who knows one will ever get it right first time)
Reya (made me think of radiators and if I've made that association so has some wag in year 9)
Cassia (makes me think of Cassius Clay, not very feminine)
Cayla
Tora (makes me think of Tory, which is an unfortunate association for a child born under such a crap Tory government. Also The Torah which will make RE lessons a pain for her. Only worth considering if you're Jewish and actively trying to make that link)
Juni (sounds like two names stuck together)
Runa (makes me think of tuna, sorry)
Sigrid (immediately thought of Sigmund Freud and then Seigfried Sassoon. Both fine gentlemen but this is for a girl, so no).

Boring
*** Amelie (also the cutesy reference to the annoying character in the film).

Other names that I think you might like based on that list
Carla
Ria
Esther
Juno
Joanie
Edith
Luca
Hazel
Cora
Rosa
Stella
Leah
Sadie
Edith
Talia
Lyla*
*
Whatever name you choose, good luck with everything and if you remember please come back and tell us what you choose (and maybe drop a cute little newborn pic!) Thinking of you; savour every minute. It's the most amazing experience.

Apologies for the weird bullet point and bold fails there. I'm on the app and clearly it's messing with me!

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 10/11/2022 01:30

I think Ingrid sounds lovely & certainly isn’t boring or common . Best wishes for your daughter’s birth .

PinkPupZ · 10/11/2022 01:37

Frieda not keen

Inga / Inge OK
Thora nice

Melaniais · 10/11/2022 01:55

Tora / Thora - would rule out, as said before RE/Jewish connotations

Ingrid is lovely

Maybe Juno instead of Juni. I know two Junos and both lovely girls

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 10/11/2022 02:22

Cassia is far and away the nicest name on the list in my opinion.

dream28 · 10/11/2022 07:20

I love Runa, Thea, Freya and Sigrid.

GlassDeli · 10/11/2022 07:27

Cassia, Inge, Freya and Juni are my favourites.

MassiveSalad22 · 10/11/2022 07:30

What about Ebba?? Love it 😍😍 for all I know it’s the Swedish version of Beryl at the mo, but I know a v cool and young Ebba. Also know very young Vilma and Lo?

From your list I’d choose Maeva (prefer Maeve) or Ingrid. But at this point just wait at see! You’ve got at least 6 weeks (we couldn’t register DD for 8 weeks due to lack of appointments!)

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 10/11/2022 07:31

Ingrid or Freya

WildCherryBlossom · 10/11/2022 07:35

I love Thea and Cassia from your list. Good luck!

Mumofgirls2017 · 10/11/2022 08:25

Frieda- ok but probably a bit marmite for most

Freya / Freja- lots around

Maeva- ok prefer maeve

Amelie- ok but blends in with lots of Emily/ Emilia/ Amelia

Reya- ok but pronounciation issues

Tora- ok
Juni- like as short for juniper
Runa- quite like
Inga / Inge- not for me

Ingrid- ok

yikesanotherbooboo · 10/11/2022 08:32

We didn't give names to any of our DC until they were with us.
I like Frieda, Thora and Ingrid.
I don't mind Thea ,Sigrid and Inga.
I would go for Maeve rather than Maeva and on the fence re Cassia.
Not keen on the others.

KirstenBlest · 10/11/2022 08:46

Frieda - will be misspelt as Frida or Freda, and possibly Freeda or Freida
Thea - meh
Freya / Freja - meh. Freja is pronounced differently, more like Fry-a
Maeva - not keen
Amelie - not keen, too many Emily and Amelia type names
Reya - not keen
Cassia - ok
Cayla / Kyla - no
Tora - no
Juni - no
Runa - no
Inga / Inge - yes, Inga is probably easier.
Thora - yes
Sigrid - yes
Ingrid - yes

Itsme85 · 10/11/2022 08:47

My favourites of your list to help you narrow down maybe?

Freya
Maeva
Sigrid
Ingrid

Good luck & congratulations @Itsme85 hope you’re not waiting too much longer now to meet your darling daughter! I am sure you’ll know just what to call her when the time comes 💐

determinedtomakethiswork · 10/11/2022 09:03

Cassia is a lovely name and I love Maeve too. I don't like Maeva though.

Luredbyapomegranate · 11/11/2022 16:38

I’d go for Thora - you clearly like the Scandi vibe and it’s fabulous and underused

Cassia is also lovely and Cassie a nice nn

Frieda is alright

Frieda - fine
Thea - fine but so many of them
Freya / Freja - lovely but done to death a few years ago. Freja spelling would be a PITA in the UK

Maeva - meh. And so many Maeves

Amelie - nice enough but Emily/Amelie/Emilia/Amelia are all v overused

Reya nothing-y

Cassia - lovely

Cayla / Kyla - low rent

Tora - Thora is much nicer
Juni - June or Juno is much nicer
Runa - this makes you sound like a Goth with a role play hobby (sorry)
Inga / Inge - doesn’t work well in English. Ida instead?
Thora - No. 1
Sigrid - Too much like Hagrid.

Ingrid - Slightly better. Astrid

user1492757084 · 12/11/2022 08:47

Amalie (spelt like the film), Cassia and Sigrid are my favourites.
You will know the best name when you meet her.
