Callista, Liliana, Marina or Mara...

I don't even know the sex of my baby yet, but seem to think I'm having a girl. 🙊 (Surname begins with M)

What do you think of these names? Fire away, I am prepared! <girls loins>

Callista is lovely. I like Callie as a nn.
Liliana is ok. I think it's a bit fussy and prefer Lilian.
Marina is super popular on here but I really dislike it. It's a place to park boats and reminds me of a mirena coil.
Mara is ok. I prefer Cara and Clara.
Callista for me with Mara second.

Thanks! An added complication with Marina is that my parents had a baby who died before I was born, named Marina. I'd hate to upset them, so thinking of using as a middle name perhaps. It would be nice to remember her

Callista is lovely. But Callie is horrible.

I like Lilliana but I also like Lillian.

In one way I really like Callista and the nn Callie but in another way Callista doesn't sound so nice. I think it's the harsh pronunciation in the middle. I have mixed feelings about it!

Mara - no! A mara is a rodent.

Mara is the only nice one.

Calista, but i'd spell it with one L. Cali is a nice nickname too, or Cal.

Marina as a middle name would be a lovely way to remember your sister. Not sure that Mara would then work as a first name because of all the M initials.

If you like Callista (Callie) then go for it (I like it).

Or you could use Callisto, who was a mythical nymph.

I love Marina, but all others I'm not fussed on at all.

Callista - Callista is quite nice, and Callie is cute as a nickname
Liliana - I find it a bit too fussy, and the inevitable nickname is Lily which is crashingly dull
Marina - normally I'd give this a whole hearted yes, but as it's the name of your sister who sadly died as a baby, I'd avoid it as first name. It feels a lot to live up and could be upsetting for your parents, even if they think they'll be ok with it.
Mara - simple and quite pretty. I prefer Lara or Clara (which would also work with Marina in the middle, which I don't think Mara would especially with an M surname).

Yes, I don't think I should use Marina as a first name - I think I've settled on it as a middle name. (Will check with my Mum, as I don't want to upset her - but I think she'll appreciate the tribute.)

Callista gets my vote. I also prefer Lillian to Lilliana.

I’ve never personally been a fan of Marina (it’s where you park your boat…) but leaving that aside, and speaking from a sad experience, I don’t think you can use that as a first name (or maybe even as a middle name to be honest) without speaking to your parents first.

Callista is my favourite I think. You could have Liss/Lissy as nn.

Obviously the M names don’t really work with Marina as a middle name - especially if your surname also begins with M.

Mina was my amazingly zany great aunt, who frequently liked to trot about her house naked - honouring her with a middle name would be fab in a very different way...

Liliana gets my vote. Not keen on callista but like callie as a nickname.

Lilia is nice too... Everyone seems to hate my other favourite, Lilias :( (Scottish form of Lilian)

I like Mara best because it's the least frilly. Hate Lilliana for the same reason.

Callista I quite like, prefer Callisto.

Love Lilian but very much dislike Liliana.

That one extra "a" just turns it into such an unnecessarily frilly name that is a total mouthful.

Also, Marina is a great name and very international. You would need to speak to your parents but if they are ok with it I think it's a lovely idea.
