I like Áine and Art. What other Irish boys and girls names would you recommend?

They do. Cos people dónt like using thése for starters. Or will want to use English phonetics like eg Shaun.

I’m Irish and never really liked Irish names other than:
Niamh
Aoife
Erin
Dearbhla
Sorcha

and names that occur a lot in Ireland
Grace (I had one)
Eva

All girls names.

Cian, Donal, Fergal are ok on boys

momtoboys · 07/11/2022 15:04

I love Aoife!

JaneJeffer · 07/11/2022 15:23

What about Éanna? It's unisex and underused.

Abhannmor · 07/11/2022 15:55

Éanna very much a boy's name in Galway. But then Seán is unisex now. Usually when boy names go unisex they end up being girl names exclusively.

Shirley, Beverly for example. Dara is now basically a girls name in the USA.

loveisanopensore · 07/11/2022 16:14

There's the biologist Éanna Ní Lamhna I suppose.

I love Dara/Dáire for a girl.

DramaAlpaca · 07/11/2022 23:37

These threads always end up with long lists of every Irish name someone can think of, which often aren't actually Irish or are spelled wrong.

Though admittedly all the above are fine.

Abhannmor · 08/11/2022 08:30

Oran/ Odhran
Tiernan
Cormac

Brigid / Bríd
Ita / Íde
Hanora

The last isn't Irish as far as I know. But I've only come across it here.

creideamhdóchasgrá · 08/11/2022 08:33

Irish relatives are always a good source of names and they may have family ones that hold significance to suggest. :)

Fluffydiamond · 08/11/2022 17:41

Éanna I would think of as a man's name. I like Iosaid for a girl too. It's the Irish spelling of Iseult.

OP posts:
Ilkleymoor · 26/02/2023 09:15

Donnachadh

LadyEloise1 · 26/02/2023 09:40

I love Aoife, Niamh and Aisling for a girl.

Always makes me laugh how many people pronounce Aoife like ‘Wifey’ 😂

Abhannmor · 26/02/2023 10:41
