Girl name to go with Orla

28 weeks and still not convinced I've found "the one". Not especially looking for another Irish name, we arent irish just loved the name at the time and this is a surprise gift we weren't expecting so never gave second thought to having to find another name that flows nicely with it. Really struggling but also quite desperate to get a shortlist together to help me feel a bit better bonded with the bump. There will be a 15 month age gap so quite close. Thank you!

Orla and Merrin
Orla and Iris
Orla and Ivy

Would love to know what you decide on. My DD is Cora and I love Iris for a sibling but I’m also leaning towards some of the other names people have suggested here. I’m choosing not to end with another ‘a’ sound otherwise Orla would be on the list!

@MyEasterEggs I love cora! That's my only concern is ending with another a sound......so hard!

Two of mine have hard a sounds at the end of their names. Third one nearly ended up with a hard a, but I went a different choice, it wasn’t to avoid the hard a though, I would happily call a 4th girl Orla having 3 hard a’s.

I love the name Orla 💕

other Irish girls names I love and would go with it are:

Niamh ( my first choice with Orla )

As I said, “I’m choosing not to end with another ‘a’ sound”, not that I think there’s anything wrong with it. Just personal preference since my name ends with that sound and so does that cat’s!

ScruffMuffin · 07/11/2022 16:51

Love Orla, think it would be our first choice of name but sadly it really doesn’t go with our surname.

Other names on my list are: Margot, Lily, Miri, Romy, Cleo, Sylvie and Fenna, I think they all go well with Orla.
