My husband and I are trying to have children, not pregnant yet but wanted to plan ahead. We definately what Erica for a middle name if we have a girl, but we are having a very difficult time coming up with a name that flows smoothly. We prefer a name that begins with J, but not totally set on it. My husband hates nick names so he doesn't want anything that can be shortened.

Erica is one of my favourite names.

For me I'd pick either:

Joni Erica
Jolene Erica

Blahburst · 15/10/2022 05:15

Erica is lovely - use it as a first name with Jane/Joy/Josephine/Jacqueline/Jean/Jude/Genevieve

all flow better with Erica first.

Jade
Jan
Jane
Jean
Joan
Joy
June

Rainbowqueeen · 15/10/2022 05:21

Sophie came to mind just from your title.

But if you want a J name how about:
Juliet
Jean
Juno

losingit31 · 15/10/2022 05:28

Definitely a name that ends in a consonant sound.

This kind of forward planning definitely ensures a series of lovely baby boys, in my opinion!

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 15/10/2022 06:09

Jasmine.

Two syllable with a consonant ending.

sandytooth · 15/10/2022 12:14

You're going to really struggle to find a J name that isn't able to be shortened tbh

sandytooth · 15/10/2022 12:14

Jane maybe

steppemum · 15/10/2022 12:21

Don't worry about shortening.
I know several people with long names who just insist on the full name - Elizabeth, Melanie, Rebecca
and others with short names that people adapt - John becomes Jonny etc.

You choose a name, and use it as you like, tell everyone that is their name and if they use a shortening, say no, it is Elizabeth, not Lizzy.

Jessica Erica flows really nicely.

I don't think you need a consonant at all

zinfanfan · 15/10/2022 12:51

Judith Erica
Jacinta Erica
Juniper Erica

Is there a reason why Erica has to be the middle name not the first name? It wouldn't be shortened so could tick that box.

What about a soft "g" sound?

Gia Erica
Georgia Erica
Georgette Erica
Georgiana Erica
Giovanna Erica
Genevieve Erica

Other suggestions:

Annabelle Erica
Imogen Erica
Carina Erica
Rowena Erica
Madeleine Erica
Bethany Erica

Erica is gorgeous. Any reason you wouldn’t have this as a first name?

I feel so many more names would flow after Erica than before it and Erica wouldn’t be naturally be shortened to a nn.

that being said, some J options:

Joy Erica
Joan Erica
June Erica
Jade Erica
Jasmin/ Jasmine Erica
Jemma Erica
Jamilla Erica
Juliet/Juliette Erica
Juliana Erica

Mumofgirls2017 · 15/10/2022 21:55

Juno Erica
Juliet Erica

other options

daisy erica
willow erica
alice erica

nancy erica
lucy erica
maeve erica
eden erica
rowan erica
quinn erica
olive erica
phoebe erica

Many asked why not use Erica as a first name. We want to use the name in honor my friend, who also happened to be my husband’s late first wife, her name is Erica! (She died in a car accident in 2018.) My husband is precious and protective of our relationship: he is willing and wanting to honor my friend/his late wife but wants our daughter to be the union of us! My husband name starts with J and mine with E so we are trying to do J E possibly for our children of God blesses us with any!

That's a nice thing to do. My god-daughter has her dad's first wife's name as a middle name too - she died of cancer not long after they married and they didn't have time to have children.

What an absolutely lovely thing to do to honour her, so sorry for both of your loss.

I have listed some J names the other day but on reading this I think Joy Erica would be beautiful x

ScruffMuffin · 17/10/2022 16:30

Josephine, Melanie and Melody immediately sprung to mind. Don't worry too much about people shortening names. I work in a school and we have plenty of children who go by the full Eleanor, Elizabeth, Alexander, William etc. It's fine and you just correct people who get it wrong.
