Trinity

This is not on our list, I'm just curious.

I watched "The Matrix" today and a character is Trinity. It made me realise how nice it sounds and looks written down. I'm not considering it but I'm just curious to know whether you like it or not and why.

Also, would you imagine a Trinity's parents to be religious? Or could it also have been used for another reason?

How do you imagine a Trinity, what sort of image does it have?

Thanks! I think it's an intriguing name even though I wouldn't use it myself.

Makes me think The Father, The Son & The Holy Spirit. No. Just no.

PS It might be shortened to Trins . Just saying

Er Trinny surely.
Like Trinny & Susanna 🤣

Hillrunning · 09/10/2022 07:26

Where I live there is a Trunity College and a vast Trinity shopping centre so I'd think of Hollister and a food court. Shame though as it is a lovely sound

UserError012345 · 09/10/2022 07:32

I don't like it.

Babyenroute · 09/10/2022 07:58

Following as it was/ is on our list- I like the meaning of it being three things as this baby is our first so will turn our family into three.
The reason we are a little hesitant about it is in case she is nicknamed Trinny!

Riapia · 09/10/2022 08:16

Is she one of triplets?

Sandysandwich · 09/10/2022 08:27

Its the name of a lot of churches where I live.
I would assume Trinity's parents were very religious (with no other personality traits). It feels like calling your children Altar or Aspostle.

But its sounds nice enough as a name.

Thank you for the chuckle, I needed it.

Going by my own experience
Trins my closest friends call Me!

timoteigirl · 09/10/2022 15:28

I like it! No problems explaining how to spell it. I would think mathematicians or scientists rather than Christians.

Trinny from Trinny & Susannah is Sarah-Jane in real life. Apparently she was given the nickname Trinny because she was as naught as girls in St Trinian's school (film).

Strokethefurrywall · 09/10/2022 15:37

I know a 9 year old Trinity, and a 9 year old Sereniti- religious Caribbean island.

Both girls are sweethearts so I really like it. Doesn't bring up any connotation for me, other than them!

KirstenBlest · 09/10/2022 16:04

It's dreadful

chaosagent · 09/10/2022 16:05

In the religious community I was brought up in, naming your daughter Trinity would be considered blasphemous by many, akin to naming her "God".

So I do a bit of double take when I see it suggested on name forums. But I understand that not everyone has the same religious perspective on it.

I definitely wouldn't choose it myself.

chaosagent · 09/10/2022 16:08

Forgot to add, I would not expect the parents of a child named Trinity to be religious. In fact, I would probably expect them to be non-religious and inspired by the Matrix film, and perhaps largely unaware of the word's significance in Christianity.

LazyLikeSundayMorning · 09/10/2022 16:12

I probably would yes, although my second thought would be something superheroes/sci-fi related (which it is).

I try not to make assumptions about names, as they are usually a reflection on a person's parents' naming choices. It's hard, humans do make assumptions and you have to override your own when you become aware of them.

Well what a lovely thread!!!
Slagging off my Name.
For your information my parents were and are not religious.
They just liked it!
Better than some stupid names I see on the Baby Names board!!!
Judgemental mares

KirstenBlest · 09/10/2022 16:34

Not as judgemental as you, @Trinity65 . OP asked for opinions and got plenty.

Bit sensitive there…

People are allowed to not like a name.

You just ignore them

MammyS · 11/10/2022 11:29

It sounds stripper-y to me, sorry!

Came to say this too!

I can see why you like the sound - it kind of reminds me of Emmerdale's sisters Charity and Chastity.

RandomMusings7 · 11/10/2022 13:21

Religious fundamentalist name. Yuck.

cakepopsandcoffee · 11/10/2022 16:58

It’s actually quite nice and it’s not common at all. It is a bit American imo. I would also consider it a bit of a black name. I know a teenager Trinity and she has reddish/ginger hair. I wouldn’t use it myself though.

cakepopsandcoffee · 11/10/2022 17:00

The girl I know goes by Trin for short.

MammyS · 11/10/2022 17:00

@Trinity65 you've chosen to take personal offence. Not everyone has the same taste, its nothing on you as a person or your parents.
