Opinions on the name Ford please? As a first name rather than middle name.
It's a family name and I'd love to use it.

Yes I'd say Fawrd rather than Foard, of that makes sense?

I'm amazed at all the references to a Ford Prefect, I had to Google!

LadyDanburysHat · 03/10/2022 15:02

It's a good Scottish name. I know one who is about 11.

TrashyPanda · 03/10/2022 15:03

So many Hitchhikers fans!

DismantledKing · 03/10/2022 15:04

Not unless he’s from a small planet somewhere in the vicinity of Betelgeuse.

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 03/10/2022 15:06

aww you're having a car!

HebeSunshine · 03/10/2022 15:08

The answer is 42, I believe.

MinglingFlamingo · 03/10/2022 15:09

Ford focus! As he's day dreaming in a maths lesson.

It's a no from me I'm afraid

Fitzfatsfeist · 03/10/2022 15:10

A car, a character in hitchikers guide to the galaxy and a place to cross a stream.

CoddledAsAMommet · 03/10/2022 15:10

Will he always wear a dressing gown?

boogieboogie · 03/10/2022 15:14

I mean it actually sounds okay...but it's a bit random I think!

HappyHamsters · 03/10/2022 15:14

This will go the same way as the Hugo thread. Please no, its terrible.

Coastalcreeksider · 03/10/2022 15:17

Transit?

My mum had a work colleague years ago, she was Scottish I think and her son was called Forbes.

Ford does sound more American to me.

KirstenBlest · 03/10/2022 15:21

@HappyHamsters , I remember the What is Hugo short for? thread Grin

RiftGibbon · 03/10/2022 15:22

If you're from a small planet somewhere in the vicinity of Betelgeuse.

nokitchen · 03/10/2022 15:23

He'd need a good towel

DismantledKing · 03/10/2022 15:27

You’re confusing Ford with Arthur

giantwaterbottle · 03/10/2022 15:31

I didn't actually think it would be so unpopular 😆
I am Scottish so it didn't sound weird to me.
Live in England though.
If I lived in America I'd definitely use it!

MNers absolutely hate anything they consider 'surnamey' or 'American-sounding'.

I've never posted my boy choices on here as they'd be slaughtered - in real life we get lots of compliments.

jonesy1999 · 03/10/2022 15:47

Scottish comedian Ford Keirnan (sp?) so it's definitely not unheard of in Scotland.

I think it would depend on your surname. I think it's ok.

Ford will always have a towel with him.
and some babel fish.

BecauseICan22 · 03/10/2022 15:50

Car

Mondeo

Focus

S-Max

You understand.

WaltzingWaters · 03/10/2022 15:53

Sorry but big no

Blueberrywitch · 03/10/2022 16:08

I like it! I’m not British though. It’s in a similar vein to Hudson, Cooper etc.

Dinoteeth · 03/10/2022 16:54

Op I'm not sure about it. With the right surname it could sound fab. But it's the issues of it being a car.

lljkk · 03/10/2022 19:03

I dated one ... decades ago. Yes we are American. You'd make it work.
