Boden - baby or shop?

DH loves the name Boden, I’ve told him it’s the name of a shop and I feel weird naming DS (due next month) this as a result.

Because DH hasn’t heard of the shop (despite DD having loads of clothes from there!) and we don’t have one nearby he thinks I’m just being picky and nobody else will think of this.

AIBU or do you also think of Boden the shop?

I thought this was going to be a post about Boden clothes.

It’s not a name! It’s a shop and the German word for the ground.

It is actually a name, Scandinavian I think. Does he like it because of the All Black Beauden Barrett?

In the U.K. people will definitely think the shop.

He may not have noticed a physical shop because it's more well known as being an online store. But I don't think I know anyone who hasn't heard of it, from all generations.

I did know a Bohdi, but she was a little girl. Her mum was very 'hippy' and her DD was 'free range', it suited her.

I would say that's so closely associated with the shop that it's almost like calling a child Primark. And this is from someone who has never set foot in one of their stores or worn a single Boden outfit.

As others have suggested, Bodhi has a similar sound, although the little boy I know with this name does have very hippy/alternative parents so might not be the feel your husband was going for?

I think this might be one of those instances where American baby name websites pick a word/surname/place name, declare it a first name and make up a name etymology. I can’t find it as a name when searching in Swedish, Norwegian or Danish although it is the name of a town in Sweden.

I know one who's about 12 and to this day every time I hear his name I think of the Boden catalogue

Maybe you could get away with it if you use the spelling Beauden, like the N.Z. rugby player.

Boden is a shop, and a surname.

I'm not wild about surname names in general, but particularly not when there's such a strong retail association

I think in Britain, it's as bad as calling your DD Nike (if not worse, as at least some people know that Nike is also a goddess)

His sibling could be Joules

Amanda in Motherland might call her kid Boden.

It's a shop. There's no getting away from it! It sounds silly, sadly.
