What do you think? Honest reviews please! How would you spell it?

I've seen:
Alana
Alanna
Alannah
All fine spellings in my opinion.

Allanah looks strange to me and reminds me of "Allah".

DuchessOfSausage · 28/09/2022 08:47

What kuvira said.
Regardless of how you spell it, people will try to use a different spelling, and even with 2 Ns some will say A-lah-na

Elana is just wrong.

Isn't that the right way to say it?

Cheeselog · 28/09/2022 09:25

I quite like it as a name but don’t like that spelling. I would go for Alanna or Alannah.

Cheeselog · 28/09/2022 09:26

@Foxesforme I would pronounce it Al-anna

Octoberautumn · 28/09/2022 09:33

I did meet one with the Allanah spelling and she pronounced it A- larna.

I always think of Alana as A-larna and Alannah as A-lanna.
I like both.

It sounds wishy washy and for some reason I hear it in an Australian accent?! It's not for me
What about Allegra or Athena for a more real sounding A name, or just Lana?

Lana is ‘anal’ backwards ☹️

Looks like a very convoluted way of spelling the much easier version of Alana.

I associate Alana with Australia, probably because of the gymnast Allana Slater from around twenty years ago and it was the first time I’d heard the name. Probably not a widely know reference though. I prefer the Alana spelling.

Ifyouknowyouknowyouknow · 28/09/2022 11:37

I’ve only ever seen it Alannah.

It’s Irish name derived from “oh child” but kind of equivalent to “my darling”, nothing to do with the name Alan.

washingbasketqueen · 28/09/2022 11:42

Alannah banana. Just reminded me of a girl I went to school with who got this all the time.

Enko · 28/09/2022 13:13

I love the name Alannah I wanted it but dh was on a firm no (an x I learned) but its so pretty and many nm options if you like that

MossGrowsFat · 28/09/2022 13:16

I have same problem with Alana as I do with Lana

WashableVelvet · 28/09/2022 13:18

Gorgeous. Same kind of sounds as lots of trendy names (Elena, Elana, Elora etc) but a bit more classic to my ear.

Kanaloa · 28/09/2022 13:18

I would spell it Alannah. I think it’s okay, a nice enough and solid name. I prefer the similar sounding Eliana over Alannah for some reason.

Ah this reminds me of a programme I watched as a kid where the ‘meanie girls’ were both called Alana? Or maybe one was called Alana and the other rhymed with Alana. It was set in Australia so maybe that’s why others associate it with Australia too 😂

ChagSameachDoreen · 29/09/2022 17:10

I like Ria Alannah King!

IStandWithMaya · 29/09/2022 17:21

Alannah

VatofTea · 29/09/2022 17:25

Alannah - I love it.

Textboxmm · 01/10/2022 19:01

That just looks like you can’t spell! If I saw that name in my classroom I’d expect trouble ahead…

Iamchurchill · 03/10/2022 12:26

Never did understand why some people think giving an ‘original’ spelling of a name is a good thing. Bit chavvy really. Unless you’re REALLY posh, they do it too sometimes.

I can’t! It was just a guess as I couldn’t remember how to spell it off the top of my head.
I would probably go with ‘Alannah’

Alana with that spelling is nice
